I didn't hear it, no, but why has it left you raging?

AmyGardner · 23/08/2017 10:04

Oh I love Maggie O'Farrell!

Maybe I can get it on catch up later.

What made you so angry?

jaminthemiddle · 23/08/2017 10:05

Why? I've read the book and it's extraordinary.

dollydaydream114 · 23/08/2017 10:07

I didn't hear it, but unless you tell us why it's made you so angry it's a bit hard to see what the problem is.

cariadlet · 23/08/2017 10:07

Yes, just listened. The arrogance of that patronising, self-important consultant was horrendous.

Yes, it made me very angry too. What a horrible, arrogant, patronizing consultant. I hope she complained about him in RL!

meladeso · 23/08/2017 10:11

Didn't mean to be cryptic.

It's the content that left me raging. The awful awful treatment she received at the hands of her consultant when pregnant.

Left me almost in tears.

Thanks PP for posting the link

She wrote an article for the Guardian about it at the time. Even though it was years ago, it stayed with me. She told the consultant that as a result of a childhood accident or illness (iirc) she'd been told that if she ever had a baby, she'd have to have it by c-section. And the consultant refused to believe her and seemed to think she was making it up. So she had to attempt a vaginal delivery and then of course had to have an emergency c-section when that was unsuccessful. Have I remembered it correctly?

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 23/08/2017 10:23

Yes, hackmum that's right: I've just read that article online. And yes, like OP, it has left me raging.

ChasedByBees · 23/08/2017 10:30

Half way through and also angry. I hope she sued.

meladeso · 23/08/2017 14:29

Does anyone know if she did take it further?

Bloody hell, I'm listening now, and reading The Guardian article. Angry

"Imagine if there was a physical procedure through which most men had to pass at one time or another that often left them castrated or impotent. Would the medical establishment frown on them for complaining? Would there be government bodies formed to bully them into submission? Would the media bait and jeer at them?"
