We've just discovered, at 9pm at night, that we can't use our bathroom. We have a leak and water is pissing down into the kitchen (through the electrics even) and we basically have nowhere to go

We've asked my stepsister, my friends and DH's family are in Italy. DM is actually staying with us because her house is having work done so that isn't an option

everyone we've asked (with enough, and no DC's either) has made some excuse, including my stepsister who turned one of us away because she is having a party tomorrow

I just can't cope with this, its been one thing after another recently and nobody will help. AIBU to expect people to help in a situation such as this? We never ask for anything

Yes I would be upset too-because the first thing I would do is offer to put you up for the night.
I find it weird that people done do this-but then other people find it odd that I would...

When my boiler broke I just went swimming every day and showered there!

I hope before the swim! 🤢

IHeartDodo · 25/08/2017 10:20

Well if you're feeling really lazy... They don't actually check that you've swum if you're using the showers!

I know how you feel OP. I lived in an annexe a few years ago and the water supply was connected to my scumlandlord's house. When the winter was especially cold, the water froze and I had no running water for a couple of days. I cancelled on a friend who lived 10 minutes away as I felt so grubby without being able to wash, and she just said fair enough - no offer of a shower. People can be crap.

We had this happen, does your bathroom work on a pump & macerator system? We had 3 nights in a premier inn because the plumber who had time to do it couldn't buy parts direct from the suppliers they had to order it in for us. Nightmare. It's crap when you don't have people who can help you out but if it doesn't suit them they are entitled to say no, doesn't make it easier to take though.
