why can't they be smaller so that you are not forced to sit on them?
or they are full so the lid doesn't close and they smell what's the point then ?
a small pedal bin with lid would surely do?

They're designed so badly if they're the same ones as I've had to use. Like someone above said, the used pads are often right there stuffed in the lid as you open it and it just feels grim to touch in the first place.

hamsterloverlover · 22/08/2017 23:04

if they smell or get over stuffed the company need to get them collected more frequently. ours were collected by phs weekly. they literally take the whole thing away and replace with another. they don't empty them on site.

YellowLawn · 22/08/2017 23:08

what's wrong with the cleaners just emptying as often as needed?

I guess I just don't understand commercial sanitary bins Confused

A lot of them are provided by and serviced by outside companies (like phs), Yellow

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 22/08/2017 23:54

I have never encountered this problem in my life Confused I've never even been near to sitting on a sanitary bin.

Everywhere I've worked, the cleaners are not responsible for emptying sanitary bins. An outside company comes in, takes them away and leaves new ones.

gonnabreakmyrustycage · 23/08/2017 00:03

I had a housemate who used to leave her open sanitary pads with blood on display, face up, in the bathroom bin, which had no lid

pringlecat · 23/08/2017 00:57

I'm sure I read something many moons ago about women's cubicles being too small for both a toilet and a bin because most of them were designed by men. Not sure if it's actually true or not, but that would make sense!

lizzieoak · 23/08/2017 01:04

I rarely see them anywhere but on the wall. Small discrete things that have never auctioned any behaviour such as to cause hate. Am now picturing bin w face of a variety of evil dictators.

everybodysang · 23/08/2017 02:38

Oh I was about to mention the Danish clip/bag system but I see someone has beaten
me to it. It did seem like a very good idea.

I'm not a small woman and I've never in my life managed to sit on a sanitary bin...but they are never emptied often enough so pretty gross!

Also, AIBU to hate the phrase 'sanpro' so much it makes my teeth hurt?

AnneSansTete · 23/08/2017 09:05

I guess it's infection control yellow, you can't go round touching hazardous waste unless you're properly trained and equipped. This is just a guess.

skibop · 23/08/2017 09:06

And it's an outside company Yellow because it's human waste and has to be disposed of properly :)

m4rdybum · 23/08/2017 09:14

It's public toilets in general, some women are right dirty bastards

I couldn't agree more with this!

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 23/08/2017 12:09

but why? I don't get it

Because it's human waste and you can't expect regular cleaners to have to deal with it. You need specialists in who are equipped for it.

emmyrose2000 · 24/08/2017 02:45

I've never in my life sat on a sanitary waste bin. I never even knew it was a thing until this thread.

Thankfully I've never experienced some of the other revolting things earlier posters have encountered either. What sort of sick and twisted mind thinks it's okay to deliberately stick used pads on toilet seats etc?! ShockConfused

Spangles1963 · 24/08/2017 19:25

I hate this too. I am disabled and always try to use the disabled loo (if there is one) but occasionally have to use the non-disabled facilities if there is already someone in the disabled one and I can't wait. I am quite wide of arse and on more than one occasion I have ended up pushing the sanitary bin forward, away from the side of the toilet,to give me a bit more room to manoeuvre. I have limited movement in my right arm due to a frozen shoulder and arthritis on that side ,so I can do without having to contend with being jammed up against a ruddy sanitary bin too!

Urglewurgle · 24/08/2017 19:36

but why? I don't get it

I think they get taken away to be incinerated. You couldn't just empty them in the bin for the normal bin men.

42andcounting · 25/08/2017 00:05

And the bin itself needs to be cleaned before being used again. Can you imagine the stench if they just emptied them and reused ad infinitum Sad
