Moved into property 3 weeks ago and the whole place needed decorating.
I haven't put carpets down yet infill all the painting was complete.
The council are ringing to come around for a "welcome visit"
Give me a chance to actually get sorted first!!!
Bloody hell !

I dont think they're coming to check up on you and chances are they will be in and out in ten minutes. I wouldn't stress about it Smile hope you're happy in your new home and all the stress will be out of the way soon!

AlternativeTentacle · 22/08/2017 17:11

Why are they coming round? Is it their house?

Helloandgoodbye445 · 22/08/2017 17:18

It is a council property yes ..but I'm up to my eyes in decorating since it was a total dive.
I can't be bothered with a stupid "welcome visit"

It's a visit to make sure you have intentions of living there full time.

They don't care what it looks like as long as you are setting up home.

missiondecision · 22/08/2017 17:23

Just let them visit.
They are doing their job, nothing to hide and all that....

Helloandgoodbye445 · 22/08/2017 18:01

Do you think they'll be ok with me not layed carpets yet?
I have all my furniture in etc

To be honest if they really cared about carpet they'd have put one in, no?

Auspiciouspanda · 22/08/2017 18:04

It's to make sure you're living there, you haven't wrecked the place, turned it into a drug den and don't need any support.

After you have your welcome visit and if you pay your rent on time they'll leave you alone apart from a one a year visit.

They won't care you don't have carpets laid yet, they might ask you if your planning on it though.

HungerOfThePine · 22/08/2017 18:05

They won't care as long as it's kept clean and you haven't wrecked it. It's mostly a quick visit to check if you have settled in or if there are any issues or repairs you need to tell them about.

Also depending on your circumstances they might offer you some support or referrals for agencies to do with decorating and furnishings.

Helloandgoodbye445 · 22/08/2017 20:03

That's a relief ..I've done so much decorating so they should see il be a good tenant etc.
I've had to do everything on my own and work so been struggling to so everything really really fast plus pack up old house etc

My DD and her DH had one of these visits about 3 weeks after being given the keys to their council flat. They had spent the last 3 weeks just cleaning the place to make it habitable, something that the council representative had told them had already been done, before they were even given the keys! Anyway, when this guy from the council turned up,they had not laid any carpets, painted or really done much in that respect at all. And they explained why. The council guy was totally apologetic about it,but said he wasn't there to check that they had transformed it into a fully-functioning home, just that they were moving in that direction and were actually living there. So I wouldn't worry too much OP.
