DM has a big birthday coming up. I want to surprise her with a short trip away, not too expensive but a bit of luxury.

Please can you give suggestions as to where I can take her? Either UK or abroad in the beginning of next year.

Have a look at Voyage Prive or Secret Escapes because they often feature hotels for " grownups" ( i.e. With spas etc not kinky Blush ) at much reduced prices. ( although I've never booked with either)

I second Madeira or a mini cruise. I would avoid Cape Verde (haven't personal experience) as very poor health care provision and not good hygiene standards (anecdotal).

Palma, Majorca.

I'd look at your nearest airport firstly, and then check which destinations they fly to (or just where the budget airlines fly to from there if you want your money to go further). You can start to narrow it down from there.

Usually airport's own websites have a list of destinations and airlines.

Thank you very much for all of your helpful responses! Getting to most airports is actually fairly easy for us. Cape Verde, although looks lovely is definitely out of my price range! I am not averse to booking something for May as the season begins to start either. I also love the idea of a mini cruise Smile

Tenerife. It's hot all year round. EasyJet flies there. Just looked at their website for random dates in Jan and there were flights for as little as £31.

Tenerife South, that is. That little bod Tenerife is hot all year round. Nearly all the hotels are there.

Not read the whole thr as but how about a nice riad in Marrakesh- so lovely in the road and treated like royalty and such an amazing city to explore

Went with 3 friends for a chilled girls weekend and loved it. We stayed www.riadkheirredine.com

It was fabulous

How about Istanbul? DSiS took DM there last year (in May) and she had a great time. DM still raves about the hammam now. For the rest of it, they just ambled, found nice cafes, and visited the bazaar.
Would be within budget too, even with a four star.
