The screw that comes through the loo just won't go into the little hole on the hinge of the seat!

Is there something I'm missing?!

Oh God, you’re not kidding. It is the worst job of all worst jobs. If I end up in hell it’ll be a never ending line of toilets that need their seats replacing. They’re bastards.

Well, that was a NIGHTMARE. At one dark moment, I seriously considered calling in a handyman. But it's done, and I feel like a frickin' superhero.

So glad to know I'm not alone. First bump to all those whose job this is in their house.

Haha I just did mine on Sunday, took bloody ages!!!

My toilet seat broke so I had to change mine the other day.

It's always a chore as there is hardly a gap between toilet and bath.
The new seat I bought needed tightening with a spanner which wouldn't turn as not enough room.
Had to to it by hand so was very proud of myself as it all seems ok.
For now anyway...

Ha! DH bought us a new one and after a week of it slipping off the side of the loo every time anyone sat on it, he bought another. He said "we must have an odd sized loo seat, none seem to fit!" and has spent HOURSSSSS trying to fit one. I thought he was being a bit pathetic but I'll give him some sympathy now then for his difficult task!

notsmart we've got a gap issue here too on one side. At one point I considered trying to put in a little mirror like in the dentist's so that I could see up to the tiny stupid hole where the screw was supposed to go.

Get one that fits from the top. They're really easy! No scrabbling around on the floor, v straightforward I understand this is too late for you now and definitely not what you want to hear

We have a fancy no move one from homebase. It came with a small funny plastic thing so you didnt have to use a spanner.

Still took ages to fit but its partially glued on.

Im so picky with loo seats because i have OCD, my poor father has this job more often than most. We get ones with metal hinges and a good solid seat as they last longer and dont flex so you unexpectedly meet cold porcelain :p I unintentionally wiggle around on the seat too much apparently, as they slowly end up moving to one side exposing the bowl rim and the hinge eventually breaks.
This current one is on its last legs, bowl exposed as it isnt sitting central and one hi ge the lid snapped and not attached to seat. I migbt send him out tomorrow to get a preemptive replacement.

Don't you take off the loo seat, turn it over, fit the screw, turn it back over and poke the screw through the hole?

You are not alone. We went through a phase of having new loo seats about three times a year, they kept slipping off to one side.

One that I currently have comes off for cleaning. I didn't buy it on purpose but it's quite handy.

Did you not look at the instructions 😂. I fitted one today too that had a fancy sta-tite nut thing where the bottom section breaks off when its the correct tightness. Had to use pliers to get the nuts of the old one - also not room to work at one side so was working blind

I did look at the instructions and they clearly had the screw thing going up into the hole.

But I'm mortified that I didn't just figure it out.

My defence is that all of my lateral thinking abilities are going into keeping toddler DD distracted and re-directed...
