THere is a really random shop at the end of our local parade of shops, that has sold all sorts of paraphenalia over the past few years: nylon knickers anyone?! THey have always sold pot smoking equipment such as bongs, rizlas etc Today I went by and they are displaying REAL guns and knives I went in and asked the owner (who happens to have 2 teenage sons) was she not worried about our gun culture etc etc She said it was for collectors and she would use her common sense when selling guns...funny how it is sold alongside drug taking equipment.....what should i do? What would u do?? Oh and I saw her husband showing a gang of 4/5 teenage boys the knives...

It is illegal to sell knives to under 16's and it is illegal to market them in a way that promotes/ encourages violence.
i assume the guns are air weapons.
Keep an eye. MAybe notify trading standards of your concerns.
Crazy.

report them to the police

I wouldn't worry, these shops tend to go bust fairly quickly, the people who frequent them can't seem to hold down a job and you can only buy so many bongs on the dole.

Air rifles ought be to banned IMHO.

Are you aware that Walmart, the owner of Asda is the largest arms supplier in the world today?

You could get your sons to buy a knife or rifle then complain to the police actually (slightly naughty but so what)?

no there was a german AK47 that they were selling for something like £800 odd pounds...this is absolutly ridiculous as they are so after the quick buck hence why their stock changes yearly (although they have always had the pot smoking stuff)

I'd second calling the police or trading standards, or both.

I'm 99.99999999 per cent certain it's really not legal to sell AK47s on the high street. call your local police station and express your concerns

Well you need a licence to sell and a licence to buy and they can't be openly on display so I'm guessing they are either fakes or she's breaking the law.

I'd badger police, council, your MP and the Inland Revenue (if nothing else fails the revenue will get 'er!)

Good luck!

Fake guns (including toy ones) have to have a red tip on their barrel, so they can be differentiated from real ones. Although I would think criminals are clever enough to paint their real guns red

I cannot believe any ordinary shop could legally sell real AK47s in the high street. Are you really sure? Notify the police today.

You really do need to report them.

I think in this day an age guns shouldnt be available to buy at all. Its ridiculous.

MamaG · 31/03/2007 08:15

MandM - they will be replicas, de-activated guns (with teh middles drilled out) or BB guns (plastic thingies)

They won't be doing anything illegal selling them, unless they are selling them to children.

If they are just selling them to adults don't get your knickers in a twist as you'll just get madder and madder and the law won't touch them.

I don't think you'll end up with all the teenagers in your area running about spraying bullets from an AK47 ffs

VVV, it was a big article, and I guess its been archived and shrunk, the gist was he sold a teeny weeny 1 inch pack of craft knifes to someone under age, was a undercover boy for the ...whoever? and he got fined 2-3 thousands pounds and shut up shop. He too sold bb guns.
He couldnt afford to keep open after that.
Should have have sold it, He must have knew the law.

shops that sell bongs, fairies, sex novelties etc actually seem to do rather well here

they can't sell the bb guns to children or unsuitable people and the customers have to be careful about imitation guns in public places

there is a potentially big fine for that about 3-5k i think

otherwise sale is not yet illegal

That must be awful to have near your house,i am always shocked where they let people have a license to seel them.
We live about 10miles from Rampton hospital( A place for the criminally insane i.e. Beverley Allit and co).As you turn into the road to it there is a very big gunsmiths ,every time I go past I am in .I can't help thinking what a strange place for it to be!

morning all - i don't know anything about gun laws, red dots on the barrels etc but REALLY appreciate everyone who has responded - my hubby also thought they would be replica - but to sell one for over £800 makes me think otherwise. Anyway, I will keep you all posted as I am definately going to do something about this - spoke to my neighbour this morning who also has young children and she was absolutely incensed also.....

they will certainly be replicas

Even replicas and airguns sold legally can get into the wrong hands.

One of my dd's best friends was killed last year by an air rifle. The gun (a massive thing) was his friend's dad's. He allowed them to play with it and this lovely young man, he was 12, was accidentally shot by another friend.

Hope you can get something done about it.

The police will still shoot you - they won't know it's a replica.
