How to stay motivated when applying for jobs?

This is going to sound so silly and petty (because it probably is Blush) but it's just left me feeling a bit down.

I'm job-hunting at the moment after leaving a job last year (have posted about my situation before).

At the moment, I'm doing freelance work to help make ends meet while I apply for work, as ideally, I would really like a full-time job.

Spoke to a family member earlier today, who told me about his work situation (he's just been told he's been given a bonus and a pay rise). I'm really pleased for him.

I'm just feeling a bit low though, as the call came just after I found out that I haven't got through to the next stage of a job application. I've now started getting a few job interviews, with this role being something that I was really interested in. Found out today that I was unsuccessful for the next stage in the process (second-round interview). I've asked for feedback, and will act on it when it's received, but I just feel a bit deflated.

AIBU to ask for your tips on how to stay motivated and focussed please? (And AIBU to use tonight as an excuse to relax and eat my body weight in chocolate?)

Thanks everyone :)

I've just started the job hunt really after being made redundant, but the main thing I'm trying to do is make sure I actually get up!
So, getting out of bed and getting dressed, not necessarily in work clothes, but as if I was going to work. Once I'm up and dressed it makes it a little less appealing to do nothing!
I'm trying to make sure I leave the house and do things, preferably first thing, as then I feel like I've accomplished something already and am a little more inclined to carry on the good work!

I don't know how much this will help as it may just be an ingrained way of thinking but I'd like to try.

In these situations where you can lose out (job interview, putting in an offer for a house, etc), I never feel I'm not good enough, but that it was never meant to be and something even more suitable is just around the corner. That thing may take weeks or years to come and the process is just an experience that I am meant to go through which in some way makes me stronger/learn/enriches me, etc.

You may think that it was the perfect job for you but the reason they gave it to someone else was because they were more suitable. This is a positive thing for you because they know what they were looking for and your skills/personality didn't match. Better to know now than get the job and it not be the right fit for you. All these interviews are just taking you one step closer to finding the job that is perfect for you!

I'm not a hippy or religious but I am a believer that things happen when they are supposed to happen and when we are ready for them to happen. (This attitude got me through a long period of singledom, and thank goodness I didn't give up on the internet dating because I finally got my "reward"!)

Good luck all of you - it WILL come! x
