AIBU?

DH shouldn't have to go private?

DH has had several verrucas on his feet for years now, been to the doctors a few times over the years because they are really uncomfortable as he's tried all the over the counter stuff. Kept getting fobbed off with they will disappear soon...but they don't. Now the pain is so bad he's struggling to walk on them and he needs to be on his feet all day for work. They've finally put him on a waiting list to have them frozen off but the waiting list is 6 months? DH simply can't wait that long as it's agony. He has found a private clinic that use microwaves to treat them but this is over £400! I'm a bit pissed off he's been fobbed off so many times and we now might have to go private when we can't afford it! Anyone got any ideas on miracle products?! Thanks in advance

Inevitable I'm afraid, the NHS is just terrible. I would strongly reccomend you consider getting some insurance. If you get something life threatening you're screwed.

The only way we could get rid if DD's vericcas waa to file them every single night and get some tweezers and try to pick out the root of the verucca. This worked within weeks.

We had tried all over the counter stuff and the Dr freezing them - nothing worked.

Go and see a podiatrist privately instead of a clinic for £400. Will be able to give much better advice and for a much better price.

And GPs stopped offering cryo years ago because it hurts like mad and doesn't work.

I had one for 9 years but when I got pregnant it disappeared within days. I doubt this would work for your DH and it is a bit extreme!

You can probably treat yourself with duct tape and salicyclic acid.

Just cover them in duct tape and wait. Remove every couple of days to wash, dry and replace straight away. No idea how it works but it does.

YABU.

He can see a podiatrist several times for £400 - somebody is having you on to charge that much for verrucas.

Wart paints do work, but rely on regular paring down of the hard skin and daily application, every day for weeks and sometimes months.

Cryotherapy is no better than 'microwaves' or lasers or wart paints or citing them out (yes, I've been at the receiving end of that one) - all destroy skin cells to allow the virus causing the verruca to be recognised by the immune system and therefore then disappear.

Can take weeks, or months or, sometimes, years.

No 'fobbing off' about it.

Is your DH able to go on the NHS cancellation list? If he is free to go in anytime he might he seen sooner.

I did this years ago whilst waiting for a wisdom tooth removal - got a call to go straight in (wasn't working at the time).

Apple cider vinegar worked for me.

Soak cotton wool in cider vinegar & then use either a plaster or duct tape.

Cheap as chips and all sorted in a couple of weeks.

FWIW I've had NHS cryotherapy quite a few times and it's always worked, though it was for warts and skin tags rather than veruccas.

Do try the duct tape method. Also tea tree oil is effective - I used to add it to the water in a foot spa.

If you're lucky enough to live by the coast, a ten minute daily paddle in the sea sorts out almost all foot problems. Smile

Thanks all for the helpful comments! I've booked him in with a podiatrist and in the meantime trying the duct tape method. Hopefully we'll get things sorted!!! Smile

I had cryo therapy and it was awful - and didn't work. What got rid of it was a seaside holiday, oddly enough. I think it was the combination of abrasive sand and soaking in salt water for days on end, eventually the verruca just peeled off and never came back.

Apple cider vinegar and duct tape was the only thing that worked for mine. Tried everything over the counter, saw GP repeatedly, who tried various things that didn't work, got them cut out and they grew back, so tried the ACV and duct tape.

Went within a week and have never returned!

Hope DH gets them sorted soon.
