To give DS (11 months) beef stifado made with wine

Possibly the most outrageously "overheard in Waitrose" style dilemma ever. I expect a flaming.

But I've just made beef stifado for a family dinner with red wine (obviously). DS is doing well with BLW, and at almost a year old is fine to eat almost anything... but I'm a bit Confused about the wine... it's slow cooked for HOURS, rapid bubble to reduce at the end... all the booze is burnt off... right??

I'm short- AIBU to give my baby a "boozy" dinner!?!?

Definitely Not. I fed my daughter monkfish and sancerre at least once a week, often with tiramisu or pears in red wine Jus as a dessert, and she was an alcoholic by the age of three.
God, the state she'd get in! She couldn't hold down a job and would become so argumentative for no good reason.
She improved by the time she went into reception.

Seriously though, it's fine.

DS greatly enjoyed stifado, many thanks for all the sound advice and only moderate pisstaking.

Just to balance things out, for lunch today, DM fed him half a banana, half a slice of buttered toast, a bite of sausage and a bite of hash brown. I was so appalled at the lack of nutrition in this non-lunch I made him a second lunch, and he threw his carefully arranged mozzarella, homemade guacamole, ciabatta and melon fingers all over the floor in disgust.

And his nappy today was every bit as vile as you all predicted.

Off for a gin. Night night Gin

bobbybobbins. He'd only make that mistake once 😡 No one comes between me & a baileys cheesecake!😤

Little bugger 😊

Queen. Did he like it? The sooner they're eating the same as everyone else the better.

AnnieAnoniMouse · 22/08/2017 20:20

Cross posted with you.

I'm glad he enjoyed it 😊

Have you got a spare room?...Oh & I'm veggie so if you could just adapt your recipies slightly that would be great. Ta x

😂

I will NEVER forget the nappies we got after taking 18-month-old DD for a Greek Cypriot blowout. She was pretty much firing giant fava beans from her bottom.

@ballpool

Grin I'm dying!

@mouse

We do have spare room, but currently using it myself as a place to hide from hyper, sleep battling DS and insane, sausage-pushing DM who is PROMISING me DS hasn't been given any sugar while I was out for a driving lesson...

Hmm

mine stole braised heart in a thick gravy (with bacon, garlic, onion etc) off DH's plate age 12 months. Weird kid.

My mum fed me heart from little squizita. Not as young as your son but probably about four. I've got my husband on to it now. Braised heart in red wine, with carrots and mash is our traditional romantic Valentine's dinner Grin

CatsAreAssholes · 22/08/2017 20:54

A glass of wine spread through an entire meal to be eaten by a blw baby... I'd happily give it to the baby and watch him throw it on the floor, and then kick the plate a bit. All fine

AnnieAnoniMouse · 22/08/2017 20:54

Oh...um...your Mother is staying?

No matter how much I could do with staying & being fed by you, your need is greater. Actually, my spare room is free should you feel the need. But you'll either need to cook or learn to love cheese on toast 🤣

@mouse

It's worse. We LIVE together 😱

😳😱

🥇You deserve it.

I'll keep my veggie patch turned over...and the spare room free. 🍷

buncakes · 23/08/2017 03:48

I'm dying at decrumbed fish fingers 😂😂

Skittlesandbeer · 23/08/2017 04:32

I'm fairly sure it's a fallacy that significant alcohol gets 'cooked off' when heated in a meal. I can only cite QI as a source for this!

Same goes for flamed brandy on a Xmas pud. Still alcoholic.

BusyBeez99 · 23/08/2017 05:43

Sounds lovely. Hope you remembered to season with salt whilst cooking. Will teach your LO about proper flavours.

QueenNefertitty · 23/08/2017 07:28

@buncakes

Partially decrumbed. He gets half the batter. Grin

I used to do it with pasta dishes and stews. I did ask DH at the time and he told me I was being ridiculous and that the wine cooks off. Or maybe not, and that's why my son LOVES pasta and won't each much else....
