To no allow any more viewings of my rental property?

I'm moving out of a rental property very soon. Moving to another country to boot! So things are pretty stressful and busy right now.

I have allowed dozens of viewings of this house over the past 6 weeks. But we have started packing up and have boxes everywhere. You can barely see the floors!

The landlord controls viewings. They don't allow the agents to contact me first, they prefer to be the go-between. They are very nice but incredibly pushy.

They have asked for three viewings this week. My home is in disarray and I don't want to facilitate any more. Is it petty to say no?

I have a child here and it's very disruptive. The last people opened everybody door and cupboard in our kitchen, turned on the taps in the bathroom and pulled open my wardrobe doors. It's like being burgled without anything being taken!

Do you think we should be left alone for the last week or so? I have international movers coming tomorrow and can barely see out of windows for boxes!

Definitely not unreasonable. And viewers won't want to be navigating an obstacle course of boxes and cases anyway!

Obstacle course is dead right!! Nobody want to view a place in this state. Landlord is getting desperate though. I know that if I say no they will ask why and will say don't worry, nobody minds about the boxes. Or offer to take my son out to the park so he's not there during the viewing - as if!!

They are very nice and kind but so so pushy. I am so looking forward to being my OWN landlord as of next week!

YANBU. We are have a viewing this week and like you we have international movers in. The key difference is that it is our house and I therefore have an interest in the being rented. I did suggest to agent that no one is going to want to rent it when it is full of boxes, family and packers but he said it really didn't matter to most people. Our house has only been on the market a few days and I didn't expect any viewings until we had left!

YANBU. And it's hardly going to be showing the place at its best so why can't the landlords wait a couple of weeks until all the boxes etc are gone and the place is empty.

To be honest, I hate viewing properties when the tenant is present. You do want to open cupboards to check on storage space, openly discuss your views on the place etc. But you can't do any of that in comfort when the current tenant is there.

You don't have to allow viewings unless there is an express term in your tenancy agreement. Even then, your right to quiet enjoyment is being infringed. Maybe suggest one day when viewings can take place - make it after the movers have been and tell them no more as the disruption is to much.

LL need to accept hat there will and should be a void period. It's so much better spruce up the property and get upkeep / maintenance out of the way once the tenant has moved out.

Does the country/agent/landlord you're going to require previous landlord references? If so it's dicey & I wouldn't.

You should allow the views but just make it clear that the house is in a mess and maybe limit the hours?
