It totally doesn't relate to any nostalgia for my childhood which was unremarkable and happy enough. I still live in my home town (the next road) so no happy/sad memory evoked.

What is it about this song? It gets me every time which made for an interesting holiday this year as dd played divide pretty much en loop all the way to Wales Blush

I also have now a bit of a crush on Ed but he could be my son Hmm

I think it's a 'getting older' thing! I feel like crying when hear 'the final countdown' Blush It reminds me of being young and having my whole life in front of me. I'm an old doll now Sad

It makes me cry too! I listened to it a lot when I was in the high dependency unit and then post natal ward with my poorly newborn when I just wanted to take him home. I played it in the car on our way home from the hospital!

We live down the road from where Ed is originally from (and therefor where the song is about) and it makes me all teary eyed too!

I think it's just the general nostalgia for your past. I get a yearning when I hear it for nothing in particular - just days gone by!

BrieAndChilli · 21/08/2017 14:11

I think it just brings out a nostalgia for being young and having your whole life ahead of you and having no worries other than hanging down the park on a Friday night. I think as adults and parents with jobs and bills and responsibility it evokes a kind of longing to be that carefree again.

There's an added layer of nostalgia for me as I spent a summer working for a kids adventure camp in Italy and our camp was overlooked by a ruined castle on a hill! So it also reminds me of that great fun summer too.

I did love the song, it's quite 'nostalgic' for me. However, my neighbours bought the lastest Ed Sheeran cd, and love playing that, Galway Girl and Shape of You on repeat. Every day. On deafening levels. With singing and clapping. So I do cry when I hear it, especially at 1am Angry.

Sorry for the rant, I did love that song and hate it's been ruined for me..

Not so much that song especially after the zillionth time it was played on the radio but I was a blubbering mess the first time I heard his track "Supermarket Flowers"

I get a bit teary at this. I'm not old (though sometimes I feel it!) and I wonder where my late teens and my twenties actually went.

I think it's the missing being care free and being caught up in the trivial rubbish like hoping a spot doesn't crop up before that date on the weekend.
