To think paedophilia is not treated seriously enough by courts?

Just read a sickening news story where a child protection social worker has been found to be a paedophile including making indecent child abuse images as well as storing lots of others in a host of paedophile activity.

So why wasn't he sent to jail? For a long time? What deterrent is there for other paedophiles? Whenever I read these news stories I feel sick, where is the punishment? So what if he loses his job, children have been abused scarring them for life Sad

The risk of someone viewing images going on to commit contact offences is considered to be low, in most cases.

Statistics?

'In most cases'......that's no real comfort to the children who do become victims of the viewers who do decide to advance their activities.

Incitatis · 21/08/2017 00:41

Viewing images of child abuse is rarely driven by sexual attraction to children.

So what exactly is it driven by?

Anaiis · 21/08/2017 00:41

Being on the sex offenders register for 10 years or more. Probably losing your job if it involves any check of your criminal record. Having to register your address. The police can and do visit you at any time to check your computer equipment. Losing family and friends, and in most cases any access to your children.

Hardly a slap on the wrist.

Incitatis · 21/08/2017 00:47

Just a slap on the wrist compared to the lifelong sentence that the victims receive. A death sentence even if they end up killing themselves, which can happen. Or a lifelong drug/alcohol addiction, homelessness, inability to form relationships and ongoing mental and physical (if they were injured) torment.

coco2303 · 21/08/2017 00:48

It is a slap on the wrist compared to what the children in the images has gone through.
Forget its children for a minute and imagine an adult was sexually assaulted or raped......i dont want to be horrible but what if that was you......
So you have been through that but there are also images/videos of this happening to you that other people arw viewing and getting off on.....
Would the 'punishment' of no prison time but regular police checks, sex offenders register and losing family and friends be enough of a punishment to the people who contributed to that happening to you????
Because as has previously been said, if people werent wanting these images it wouldn't be happening so much

coco2303 · 21/08/2017 00:50

I really shouldn't of looked at this thread. Just gets me so emotional thinking about it.

AhveHeardIt · 21/08/2017 00:51

Viewing images of child abuse is rarely driven by sexual attraction to children.

Bullshit! What the fuck sort of bastard would willingly view those sort of images other than those attracted to it or the folk in police services etc who have to do it to rightly charge the bastards who view the images in the first place?

Incitatis · 21/08/2017 00:52

it seems that something needs to be done

coco2303 · 21/08/2017 00:54

And the question incitatis asked if its not driven by sexual attraction then what is it driven by? Porn is legal and is with consenting adults... and yes i have watched porn but would only watch what i am interested in/ attracted to.
So what does make someone search for and look at child pornography if it isnt something they are attracted to?

Incitatis · 21/08/2017 00:55

Presumably this increase is linked to people cutting their teeth so to speak on csa images. It's not an unreasonable conclusion to arrive at.

AhveHeardIt · 21/08/2017 00:56

So what does make someone search for and look at child pornography if it isnt something they are attracted to?

Precisely.

coco2303 · 21/08/2017 00:57

I need a like button for your comments incitatis and ahveheatdlt you guys are better with words than me but i strongly share your views

Incitatis · 21/08/2017 00:59

They must have been meaning to look at kittens or pasta recipes coco

Strange, I only look for things I'm interested in on the web. These csa image viewers must be doing it for 'research purposes'......now where have we heard that one before? Hmm

coco2303 · 21/08/2017 01:06

Incitatis exactly! These people (paedophiles) can not be 'rehabilitated " and i am usually very good at taking other peoples views and opinions into consideration honestly i am.
But on this subject no. You can not change what people are attracted to through any means. No councelling, torture, prison sentance can change that in a person.
And i do firmly believe these people should be taken out of regular society, sterilized and put on an island somewhere with no import/export and left.
However harsh that sounds and i am a very emotional person and hate to see any human or animal hurt or abandoned.....
But i have 2 small children to protect with my life. So for paedophiles my sympathy is non existant

Anaiis · 21/08/2017 01:07

There are many reasons.

Organisations who work with offenders have information on reasons for offending. Feel free to educate yourselves, if you have time to stop waving your pitchforks that is.

Most offenders don't claim it was research. Unless they're celebrities.

As for likening this to rape, the majority of rapists are never convicted. They never even make it onto the sex offenders register or endure any of the consequences. So I'm not sure any comparison is worthwhile.

Incitatis · 21/08/2017 01:10

I have zero sympathy for them either.

A six month camping trip to Siberia in January is the only 'treatment' I would advocate.

It seems it's on the increase. I don't know what the answer is.

coco2303 · 21/08/2017 01:11

My point with comparing it to sexual assault or rape with an adult is because that is exactly what is happening to these children.
But a adult has a voice and still like you said may rapists arent even convicted.
A child doesnt have that same vouce

AhveHeardIt · 21/08/2017 01:16

Feel free to educate yourselves, if you have time to stop waving your pitchforks that is.

You wrongly presume that we don't know it already and condescend. We know it well.

WashingMatilda · 21/08/2017 01:18

Viewing images of child abuse is rarely driven by sexual attraction to children
I've literally read that over and over for the last 60 seconds and I still don't get it.

I will agree though, that many paedophiles don't want to be paedophiles.

Let me be clear, I am NOT talking about those who have already committed offences against children.
I am talking about those who know they have these feelings, have not acted on them and don't want to.

All the PP's who have said it's because society 'doesn't give a fuck about children'
I actually think it's the complete opposite.
I actually think what happens is people hear the word 'paedophile' and immediately shut down any conversation about treatment with language like 'Castrate them' 'Stick them on an island'
'Monsters' etc.
All that's doing is segregating potential offenders even more.

And we all know that when someone feels cut off from mainstream society and 'Not wanted' then they are much more likely to offend. Look at the way ISIS recruits potential terroists, they play on their feelings of abandonment and lack of belonging.

I do honestly believe that if we could have a more mature conversation about this and face up to the horrific fact that some people are sexually attracted to children, we could protect so so many potential victims.

ItsAdam · 21/08/2017 01:28

Not just courts, police in general.

We are going back 8 years now, but I was in charge of IT for a small company. Anyway the other directors wanted to know what one was doing when he was "working" evening and weekends.

He had a spare special hot swap hard drive that no one could find.

Turns out there was a reason for hiding it. The guy was looking at some really weird stuff and you guessed it a total pedo.

This was Nottingham and their high tech crime unit who couldn't even figure out how to remote desktop on to a Windows server (very straight forward) after seeing some stuff my partner and I said that's enough of us checking logs arrest him and take the logs yourself.

Called the police they arrested him and took all the PCs from work and his home.

The guy told me there was over a 12-18month wait before they could inspect his computers, and the maximum time they could have the case open is 12 months.

The guy lives near a secondary school and has school kids passing his house everyday.

To this day nothing ever happened to him apart from the initial arrest, he's never served time, gone to jail and was sent home the day of his arrest.

The entire "justice" system in this country is flawed and useles. You cant be in a high tech crime unit and know nothing about computers and the Internet. It's a piss poor show.

No doubt there's thousands of people like him getting away with it without any sort or punishment.

AhveHeardIt · 21/08/2017 01:30

WashingMatilda I have read of some individuals who have sought help for their paedophilia fearing that they may act on it.

Imstickingwiththisone · 21/08/2017 01:31

I don't think that looking at CSA images is always down to paedophilia, as in being attracted to children. Just as rape isn't always about sex.

I think its a huge taboo and pornography is so perverse that a certain type of regular user continues to seek more degrading content. There was a case recently that included beastiality images but i don't for a second think that the person watching was sexually attracted to animals.

I think if the law doesn't send the message out that viewing these images is creating a market for abusers to continue harming children, then there needs to be a better education about it.

I don't know how they would do this without pubic broadcasts though which would be equally hideous. With stats like 1 in 100 men though, SOMETHING needs to be done.

AhveHeardIt · 21/08/2017 01:35

I don't think that looking at CSA images is always down to paedophilia, as in being attracted to children

I do. Why on earth would anyone look at images like that otherwise?

Imstickingwiththisone · 21/08/2017 01:38

For the reason I stated further down.

ItsAdam · 21/08/2017 01:41

I don't understand that either, possible didn't help things that a 13yo girl would be married off to a 30 or 40yo back in the day either.
