Just reading that supermarket X has sausages that might be infected with hep E - of course it's the main supermarket I buy sausages from* *facepalm

AIBU in thinking that if it's all true that this billion pound business should pay the NHS the cost of sorting out the mess?

*according to sources on Reddit the newspapers just call it supermarket X

Seriously? If you can find any reputable news source reporting on this, then maybe start to worry. If all you have is Reddit then I wouldn't freak out just yet

I just googled, a fair few newspapers have spoken about this actually.

For me this is a Animal Welfare issue, which would be solved if we all ate less animal products, so could source meat/eggs etc from the UK and were prepared to pay more for them.

It's a concern that has been pushed to the bottom of the issues of Brexit.

yes it did say v specifically in all the papers I read that British pigs aren't affected - I do think in this sort of health scare that they should give specifics and suggest routes to ensure public health though

Well, from the BBC article it sounds like the risk is only if the sausages are not cooked properly.

I assume you cook your sausages?

Hepatitis E is generally a mild and short-term infection that doesn't require any treatment, but it can be serious.

Symptoms range from tiredness to liver failure. In rare cases, it can prove fatal, particularly in pregnant women or those with a weakened immune system.

Normally the infection will clear by itself. But the virus can result in a persistent infection which in turn can cause chronic inflammation of the liver.

The number of cases in Europe has increased in recent years and it's now the most common cause of short-term hepatitis in the UK.

There is no vaccine for hepatitis E.

Maybe people should just stop killing baby pigs for food and eat something else instead?
