To ask the delivery men to do this?

Been saving for ages and can finally afford a new TV for the front room (so excited! My TV now only works when connected to a laptop so no remote). I want my old one in my bedroom. However, it's ridiculously heavy. I'm a LP and even with my best friend's help, I think we'd struggle to get it up the stairs. I'm really scratching my head about what to do.

Was thinking about asking the delivery men to take my old TV upstairs for a fiver each or something. Small house so would only take a minute max. ExP used to be able to carry it himself (with a lot of huffing and puffing), so it is doable. Is this an acceptable thing to ask, or not? Obviously if they say no, they say no. Or does anyone else have any idea? I suffer with anxiety and really overthink stuff like this. Blush

Don't think it can do any harm to ask though they might not be able to due to insurance or other red tape even if they wanted too.

I also think insurance etc might be an issue. It's probably unfair to ask them and put tgem in the position of saying no.

If your ex could do it by himself then you and your friend would probably mange together.

JennyBlueWren · 20/08/2017 20:58

Don't see any harm in asking so long as you're not bothered if they say no.

KindleBueno · 20/08/2017 20:59

I've done this before. The worst that can happen is they say no.

GrampieRabbit · 20/08/2017 21:00

I did think insurance and stuff but also thought who would know? And an easy half hours wage or whatever. I'm sure they're well versed in not dropping stuff but I wouldn't sue them or anything if they did!

Just don't want them to feel awkward like a PP said, or just look at me like I was a weirdo.

Could you ask a friend or a neighbour to help instead? I think it would be a bit awkward to ask the delivery men just in case they say no.

Well when you buy an electrical item you're entitled to have an old one of the same type taken away for recycling aren't you. That's the way it is here in Ireland. When I recently bought new kitchen appliances the delivery team removed my old ones
So it's not much extra effort to bring your tv upstairs rather than out to the van.

GrampieRabbit · 20/08/2017 21:04

I just don't really know any strong men (unfortunately BlushWink). My dads got a bad back, my friends are mostly girls (not that girls can't be strong, but I just don't think we could do it). My ex was a weightlifter. It is a really heavy TV Sad

Never heard that before Deemail, and I can't see any info about it on the Argos website unfortunately Sad

It's called WEEE and is applicable in UK too, think all of Europe.

GrampieRabbit · 20/08/2017 21:18

Fab! Hopefully makes them a bit more likely to say yes.

If it's argos they charge extra for taking the old appliances away.

Deemail · 20/08/2017 21:32

Ah feck, there's a small charge added on to large appliances here in Ireland to cover the recycling when you're buying. That's regardless of whether or not you will avail of recycling. That's with all electrical suppliers.

LadyDeLaFuente · 20/08/2017 21:39

I would definitely ask them! They can only say no. I had a friend who asked a Jehovah's Witness to take the rubbish down on his way out which I would probably draw the line at!

In fact, I had the Ikea delivery men give me their personal mobile number in case we wanted anything assembled. I'm sure your guys would be pleased to make a fast buck.

Urubu · 20/08/2017 21:39

We did similar a couple of times, the delivery men were always happy to oblige for £5/10 cash.

worridmum · 20/08/2017 21:44

actully most devlery people would be fired doing that and if they were injured carrying your old tv up the stairs they would not be covered by insurnce and would also lose there jobs ether by lying how they got injured or by admitting the did somethnig they shouldnt of done

GrampieRabbit · 20/08/2017 22:02

Oh. I definitely don't want that Sad
