To not want to close my door like this

I've been in my flat 5 months now, the neighbours moved in around the same time. Yesterday I was going out and pulled the door shut. I have a standard Yale lock on the door. Anyway, my neighbour was outside smoking and snapped 'you do know how to close the door without slamming it don't you?' I said I wasn't aware I had slammed the door (as I'd only pulled it shut). He then said 'you put your key in the lock and turn it the opposite way'. I said I'd try to be more careful in the future and apologised.

AIBU to not want to get my keys out every time I close the door? As far as I'm aware it's not a particularly noisy door. But my neighbours are a bit of a PITA....they once told my (now ex) boyfriend to 'move the bed away from the wall when you get passionate' Blush

I am really conscious of noise, I've got 2 small children and everyone else in the block of flats is retirement age, so I do try to keep quiet as much as possible, but I do feel that being told I'm slamming the door when I'm honestly not is too much.

Since they've been here the neighbours have got the landlords to change the carpets, change the wallpaper and remove a fireplace because they didn't like them...they told me they asked the landlords to do it rather than the landlords offering. I'm only putting this in now to avoid drip-feeding later. I just wonder if they aren't a bit fussy and cantankerous.

I have a normal lock so it's no big deal to get the keys out and lock my door but in your case I would decide how far you will let your neighbour intimidate you and take it from there. Provided you are not opening and closing your door 20 times a day i would ignore them.

I'd use the key trick if it was very early or late, but not during the normal working day.

I guess if I were in and out every ten minutes, I'd think about it.

No, that's perfectly reasonable. They just seem like miserable sods.

I had a housemate who would pull the door shut and the noise was awful indoors and the fitting started to come away from the door.

The rest of us used our keys.

You might not think its noisy or annoying but it can be.
