Aibu to be pissed off (conveyor theives)

Putting my weeks shopping on the conveyor at the local supermarket. I had only put about 4 items on so far when a couple ran down and start throwing all of there shopping directly by mine leaving me maybe half a foot of room for my whole trolley full Angry
Won't lie I purposely took ages to hand all my items one by one to the lovely check out lady who looked apologetic for the cheeky fecker. Aibu to have let them annoy me ? Have any of you had this happen ?

Interestingly, it happened to me the other day but the culprit left precisely enough room for me to finish unloading all my shopping. So I had no cause to get cross with them. Annoying. Grin

nannybeach I've laughed so much at thisGrin

Moral of the tale = don't mess with a granny who'se been on an assertiveness course!

Bloody love that!

Someone did this to me in Sainsburys once, I just started putting my stuff on top of his.

He looked shocked and said incredulously 'but it's all mixed up' I just shrugged and said 'I know'.

He got the message though and moved. Grin

Bluetrews25 · 19/08/2017 17:41

You have to do this in Aldi, due to the staff's rapid scanning speed, but regulars get good at guessing how much space you will need and leave adequate room.

monkeywithacowface · 19/08/2017 17:43

My trolley stays firmly at the beginning of the checkout conveyor belt until I have unloaded. It's definitely an Aldi thing, never have it anywhere else.

dementedma · 19/08/2017 17:44

do any of you do the MN divider thing? I read about it on here and do it sometimes to amuse myself and embarrass my dcs who say it is petty.
When all your shopping is on, put the toblerone divider thingy on the belt so that it is parallel to the belt and not across it. Up and down, rather than side to side IYSWIM. Then watch the person behind you stare at it, look at you, stare at it again, and then put it the "right" way round. Every time. People can't cope with it being the "wrong" way round. and, no, it doesn't take up so much extra room that it causes a world crisis before anyone says it.

SpottedGingham · 19/08/2017 17:47

I do the divider thing. It really seems to annoy some people!

Ladymadness · 19/08/2017 17:48

Dementedma I'll have to try that 😃

This happened to me once in Sainsbury's and I turned to the man and said "can you wait" - and he wouldn't and said "you can fit it all in there" so I responded "looks like I'm going to have to because you're being so inconsiderate".

I didn't actually have a great deal left in my trolley by that point, but it wasn't going to fit without me piling things on top of one another so I just stared at him as I was unloading and the space was getting smaller. He moved his stuff, and I said thank you in an extremely sarcastic manner

Never have a problem in Aldi because I stand and unpack at the furthest end and let the conveyor belt take it forward for me so nobody has the chance to sneak in behind. It's not a conscious strategy, just what I always do.

GrannyD57 · 19/08/2017 17:52

OP, sorry to hear you and your family are having a bad time at the moment. Hope things improve, as much as they can do.
Did the idiots behind do/say anything as you and the cashier got on with things?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/08/2017 17:54

In our local Waitrose people leave their shopping baskets on the floor Hmm just right to trip over. I am this close > < to kicking it across the aisle.

Nasty little woman shoved my trolley out the way while I was reaching into the freezer then blocked the next aisle yakking to a couple

I have had people leaping onto the conveyer to unpack, I just say "I haven't finished yet" and glare.
Next time I will shove their shopping back.

42andcounting · 19/08/2017 17:57

I had this last week for the first time ever, late night grocery shopping, had unloaded four things from a full trolley when the bloke behind me started putting his stuff right behind me. I just sang our very cheerily "I'm going to need a LOT more space than that mate" then beamed at him for an uncomfortable amount of time. He looked at me, then my trolley, then the belt, and went "Oh. Right." before moving his stuff off with poor grace Grin

Ladymadness · 19/08/2017 18:00

Thank you grannyd57 they looked every annoyed but refused to look up at me 😃

This happened to me in Aldi the other day and I was just WTAF?! I'm going to do the parallel divider thing next time Smile

MimsyFluff · 19/08/2017 18:12

I do the divider thing my children think I do it by accident and put it the "right way" I get huffed at by strangers and once someone behind me smiled. I think it should be mandatory for every MN member Grin

Sorry about your family OP x

"Aibu to have let them annoy me ? "

Yes-they're not worth it!

If it happens again just push the other person's stuff out of the way & carry on.

I've only had it done once to me (and iirc it was in Tesco). I picked up the divider thing and started pushing the intrusive groceries further back on the belt with it as I unloaded my own stuff on. Didn't look at the person behind or anything so I don't know if they were pissed off but they didn't say anything.

Usually I keep the trolley behind me as I unload, so that's probably why is hasn't happened more often.

Ikabod · 21/08/2017 10:18

User951... that happened to me in Waitrose! It was like the woman was reverse stalking me. It seemed like every aisle I turned down, she was there with her trolley right across the aisle! I mean, who does that?

Ikabod · 21/08/2017 10:21

Oh, and also, when you're looking at something (like cheese, for example) and someone's arm goes shooting across your face to grab something. This drives me nuts - wait your turn! Picking the right maturity of cheddar takes time, FGS! A bloke did this to me recently and I said "oh gosh! I do hope I'm not in your way!" and have him a snarky smile.

justilou1 · 21/08/2017 10:52

This drives me mental. I might accidentally stack up my tins and bottles right next to their bread or chips and if they fall over and happen to squash their shit, oh well....
