bitsheepish · 18/08/2017 15:34

Only my bag didn't arrive now trying to shop in 40c heat for a swimsuit at least and sandals as I travelled in jeans and trainers. Have a mum body massive boobs and just ready to give up crying alone left DH and DC in pool at hotel so fed up.

OP posts:
happypoobum · 18/08/2017 16:00

Agree with PP - this is why you cross pack.

Why are you swimming and sunbathing in bloody Florence?!! I would grab this opportunity OP to leave family by the pool whilst you go off and enjoy all the fabulous things Florence has to offer that don't involve a swimsuit.

You will definitely be able to find a dress or summer trousers and t shirts somewhere. If you tell us exactly where you are we can help to locate a good place nearby to save you time.

I hope you have a good time anyway, Florence is gorgeous.

Lolabridges · 18/08/2017 16:01

I was in this situation once in a country where I didn't speak one word of the lingo either!

I used google translate to ask where could I go to buy beach dress, bikini etc.at a cheap price. No way was I going to spend a fortune on stuff that I already had!

I asked the room maid, they know everything about the area, and there were only MEN on reception, that kind of place. Worked fine with a lot of giggles and mad typing into the translate. Room maid actually wrote the name of the market/mall down and I got the map out.

lljkk · 18/08/2017 16:02

Sympathies, my hols this year started badly, too.
Telling someone what they should have done isn't much help when they already feel rotten and can't change the past.

Cheer up. You can fix this. Hang in there. Things will get better.

coldflange · 18/08/2017 16:06

Oh no, OP. Horrible situation to be in.

I would take a shower ti freshen up then head out to find a lightweight summer dress and flip flops. That must be simpler than messing about with swimwear just now. Then have a nice cool beer and enjoy the evening.

Hopefully your luggage will show up tomorrow - if not you will be more relaxed to go shopping for more clothing

Fingers crossed.

Neutrogena · 18/08/2017 16:06

Stop crying OP. It's not an awful situation, just a challenging one.
I guarantee how you're feeling now will pass, and you'll be by the pool yourself soon.
Just buy any old shit and get in the pool.
No-one cares what you look like, so just enjoy your holiday.

Amazon Italy on Prime - next day delivery x

Bitchfromhell · 18/08/2017 16:07

Seconding the maxi dress. A kaftan would do, anything to keep covered but feel cool. Then you need a department store for pants, swim suit, flip flops and a pharmacy for razors, deodorant. Then cocktails with your family somewhere nice.
Not been to Florence but cities in Italy I have been to usually have good department stores. Keep all your receipts, just in case your travel insurance covers the cost. Worry about that when you have some clean clothes though. Smile

anothermalteserplease · 18/08/2017 16:10

Oh no what a disappointing start. Hopefully you can get a bikini and a maxi dress you're happy with. And your bag arrives tomorrow.

Nuttynoo · 18/08/2017 16:11

Try Yelp (link below). Size 14 in Italy is usually a plus size.

BusyBodd · 18/08/2017 16:14

I managed to get some bits for a slightly different but comparable situation at Decathlon in central Milan - sports stuff and similar range to UK shops - here's the address for the one in florence: Via dei Rastrelli, 10/A, 50127 Firenze

PattyPenguin · 18/08/2017 16:17

You're not going to believe this, OP, but there's a Primark in Florence.

I Gigli, Via San Quirico, 165 , 50013, Campi Bisenzio
Open 09.00 - 22.00 today and tomorrow (Saturday).

And yes to getting receipts.

They still had beachwear in the windows last week.

GrabbyMcGrabby · 18/08/2017 16:40

Where in Florence is your hotel?

As well as a Primark you'll also find an H&M in the center. Dept store nearby called Rinascente, which is also close to Coin. Florence is tiny so you should be able to get between those without getting too lost, and the temperature will be down to low 30s from tomorrow. Also, they still do traditional style single item shops (like just gloves or just hats etc. Maybe there's a swimsuit one if the chainstores don't have anything?) There was a lingerie shop near H&M /Rinascentre.

It's true, Italian designer clothes are generally teeny in boutiques and a size 14 is probably an Italian 46.

Hope you have a great holiday!

ChasedByBees · 18/08/2017 20:43

@SapphireStrange yes I typed that, closed the page and then had an epiphany of 'concierge? What an absolute wanker!' Grin

ChasedByBees · 18/08/2017 20:44

I hope you managed to sort it OP Flowers

BoysaDearyMe · 18/08/2017 20:52

I agree with trying big supermarkets, you should be able to get most of what you need there (eg Simply supermarkets in Italy)

JennyBlueWren · 18/08/2017 21:34

Sympathies! I went to Naples at Eastertime without suncream. I burn easily. The confusion of the Italians as to why someone would need suncream in the middle of winter! Eventually a dermatologist produced a tiny and very expensive tube from a back room.

Good luck hunting!

Fluffyears · 18/08/2017 21:48

Ooh this is my worst nightmare and why I take some clothes in handliggsfe and cross pack. DP thinks I'm mad as he just assumes his luggage will arrive. Is there a timescale for your own luggage, definitely go to primark and at least get underwear, vest tops, flip flops etc. Hope your luggage arrives soon.

FinallyDecidedOnUserName · 19/08/2017 07:51

Did you get sorted?

GoEasyPudding · 19/08/2017 17:13

Really hoping the suitcase has arrived and some good shopping was done.

Downtheroadfirstonleft · 19/08/2017 17:21

Bravissimo are great for swimwear for "the ample chested". I'm sure if you phone don't them, they would sort something out re delivery. They have some of the best customer service that I have ever seen.

Crunchymum · 19/08/2017 17:38

I wonder if her charger was also lost and she has no battery? Blush

FinallyDecidedOnUserName · 28/08/2017 09:11

Am hoping OP had a good holiday in the end.

LavenderDoll · 28/08/2017 09:18

My worst nightmare
We cross pack
Hopefully all sorted OP

Bluntness100 · 28/08/2017 09:23

This happened to me and we cross pack, so result was we all lost some key items for several days, it's actually a bloody nightmare. You don't know if you're getting your stuff back, you have to go shopping when you'd rather not and it can be hell to find something decent.

My full sympathies op, fingers crossed you've got sorted.
