To start watching Game of Thrones just so I can join in conversations?

90% of what people around me (work, fam, friends) talk about is GOT.

Ive never seen a full episode, what I did see looked violent and quite anti women.

However convos tend to go "seen the new GOT?" "No I dont watch it, guessing it was a good one?" And then off they go.

Like the tv equivalent of when Rachel Green takes up smoking to keep in with the gossip.

Binge watched all first six seasons over the winter. Best thing ever.

Now binge watching Breaking Bad. Second best thing ever.

Oh god...do it!
I finally persuaded DP to watch the first six series in prep for S7.
He was sceptical, now he joins with me in singing "Tits and dragons!" alongside the theme.
Try it...
"Ti-hiiits! Ti-hi-hi-hi its! Tits n dragons! Tits n dragons!"

I've never seen it! I've bought series 1 on DVD, but am a bit nervous of watching it due to all the violence.

Is it Lord of the Rings type, slash and they're dead/ dismembered type of violence, or Tarantino see their terror type violence?

It was on a few seasons, and I'd avoided watching it deliberately due to what I'd read about violence, rape, etc. (but I've got nothing against tits and dragons!). Also, that fantasy genre is not something I have any interest in. DH watched it, and liked it, but not as much as others I know.

... However, I ended up watching the first few episodes on season 1, and got hooked. I'm amazed I watch it considering the scenes of war, rape, torture etc.

It is true that there is a lot of violence towards women (men are not spared from violence or gruesome deaths either - it's a pretty violent story) in the series. However it is also true that it has a huge host of diverse, strong, female characters.

In that sense it blows every other tv show I've seen out of the water. Brianne, Cersei, Olenna (my favourite!), Elia, Arya, Melisandre, Sansa (in the later seasons).

Tried it, watched 2 or 3 episodes, couldn't get into it. Probably because I was more into TWD and Breaking Bad at the time.
Off the back of this thread I gave it another go last night and watched episodes 1-4 back to back and really enjoyed it.
Favourite character right now is Tyrion

Will be watching some more today.
