To think they could have called me after interview?

I had an interview last week and a micro teach yesterday and was told I would be informed of the outcome by Friday. (tomorrow)
I sent an email this morning thanking them for their time and for giving me the opportunity.
I've always heard one way or the other in other interviews I have attended but haven't heard anything at all.
I've concluded I will not be offered the job but couldn't they have called or let me know one way or the other?
I thought this was normal etiquette?

They said they'd let you know tomorrow? Don't assume that you've not got the job until Monday

Nikephorus · 17/08/2017 15:35

But they've told you that you'll hear by tomorrow? So wait til then & you'll hear! They may have had other interviews to do.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 17/08/2017 15:36

I'm confused. They said they would let you know by Friday which hasn't happened yet? They may have an interview this afternoon or the people that need to decide can't all get together until tomorrow.

MyMorningHasBroken · 17/08/2017 15:36

I know I am jumping guns a bit. But was thinking they would be closed in an hour or so. :(

It's only Thursday, though. They said they'd let you know tomorrow.

Anyway, I've often never heard back from jobs I've applied for. I'm either offered an interview, or I hear nothing. If I get to interview and don't get it, I've occasionally had a generic "thanks but no thanks" e-mail or heard nothing.

MyMorningHasBroken · 17/08/2017 15:38

The people travelled down to my area yesterday from another area so I am guessing all the interviews would have been done during that time frame. Of course - I can't be sure.

They might still have interviews going on today, or the hiring committee might not have met yet.

Be patient.

JennyBlueWren · 17/08/2017 15:39

Wait until end of tomorrow. They may be doing interviews on different days. The panel might not be able to meet to discuss how the interviews went until today.

Expatdh · 17/08/2017 15:40

It is too soon to assume that you haven't got the job. They may have other candidates that they are still interviewing, or a higher up may need to sign off on the decision. They said Friday, and as a PP said, you should wait until at least Monday before concluding that you haven't been successful.

Ilikegarlicbreadxx · 17/08/2017 15:40

They still may let you know- best of luck Smile

MyMorningHasBroken · 17/08/2017 15:41

Ok thank you. I'll be patient. I know you've all been there :( x

I'm in the same situation, after a second interview. I was meant to know by close of play yesterday, but nothing.

Very annoying. I wish they would just let me know it's a no so I can move on!

I mean how long does it take to send a rejection email. Angry

FatBottomedGal · 22/08/2017 15:18

If you've not heard anything by COP tomorrow, I'd just send a polite email asking when you should expect to hear an update and that you're really keen on the role.

m4rdybum · 22/08/2017 16:04

It really is annoying when companies don't take the time to do a quick phone call, to let you know the outcome of an interview either way.

One of my big job hunting annoyances.

Allergictoironing · 22/08/2017 16:13

I'm afraid it's very common these days for employers/agencies to not bother informing unsuccessful candidates. I think on average I've had under 50% of rejections who have bothered to tell me.

Bobbiepin · 22/08/2017 16:16

I've had it in the past when I've interviewes for teaching jobs and was told I'd be told by a certain date and they didn't get in contact until a couple of days after that, and was offered the job. Remember with MATs its not always as simple as you interview for a job and they can offer it to you, lots of paperwork and hoops to jump through.

redexpat · 22/08/2017 16:20

I think they have offered it to another candidate and they are waiting to hear back from them. You might still be in the running.

PollyFlint · 22/08/2017 16:27

Having been involved in the recruitment process from the other end, there are all sorts of things than can cause delays. We've often known straight after interview which candidate we prefer, but we then have to compare our interview notes/scoring with those of the HR interviewer, and then if there's a big discrepancy that has to be discussed with someone else, and then when we've come to an agreement the offer has to be signed off by someone else, and sometimes they query it and we have to arrange a meeting to go through things ... etc. Sometimes we'll have been sure we'd have been able to make an offer by a certain day and then unforeseen circumstances such as staff absences or admin queries have held things up. It does happen. Or sometimes you offer a candidate the job and have to wait for them to come back and confirm - and if they say no, there is often a second choice candidate we'll then contact. So we don't go back to people and say they haven't got the job until we've actually had a firm acceptance and that can take longer than anticipated.
