Why oh why do people think "oh lets give half shoe a teddy" ffs she will be 12.
her driver gave me her birthday present(as it is hols) you can feel it is a teddy......now I know lovely of him and the escort to do it. BUT what do I do with all these endless bloody furry things.
SO PLEASE IF BUYING FOR A CHILD WITH SN DON'T BUY A TEDDY

Can't bear soft toys. Threw all baby ones out to charit bags.
Quietly sneak them away when DD not looking.
Or say you are a big girl shall we give these to all those little babies out there?

2shoesonanegghunt · 30/03/2007 12:14

she doesn't want them. we will keep the specials. but even charity shops just bin them.

MamaG · 30/03/2007 12:16

Why do they buy teddies?

2shoesonanegghunt · 30/03/2007 12:17

i suppose they can't think of anything else.shame is just a pad of drawing paper from the £1 shop would have her scribbling for ages.

OP posts:
lulumama · 30/03/2007 12:17

i don;t think they buy them because she has special needs but becuase it is the sort of thing they think a young pre teen might like...

hard age to buy for if you don;t know their taste in music or are allowed to wear make up etc

i also don't like teddies, but why not donate them to a charity?

CadburyCremeSquonk · 30/03/2007 12:18

I don't think that it is because she is disabled. It's because they are being nice and don't know what to get. Teddies are all round ok prezzies. Like getting a woman some body lotion really.

MamaG · 30/03/2007 12:19

weeeel I have to say squonk and lulu that when my nieces were 12, nobody bought them teddies (they don't have sn) so I think 2shoes is right, there IS a link here

lulumama · 30/03/2007 12:21

oi, you saying i'm WRONG ???? LOL!!

think people's minds just go blank!

MamaG · 30/03/2007 12:22

yes, their minds probably DO go blank, but they should just ask 2shoes what little shoe would like

CadburyCremeSquonk · 30/03/2007 12:27

wee-eell my dd1 (13) has more teddies than TeddiesRUs - and she's not sn. She gets them for xmas, bday, easter... Everybody buys her a blardy teddy. They get stuffed in the toy cupboard and never see the light of day again.

Hulababy · 30/03/2007 12:29

I doubt it is linked to her having special needs. Might be more linked to her being a girl TBH. Some people just don't know what to buy. DD's is almost 5 and we have already had to give away 2 bin liners full of soft toys, and still have far too many.

2shoesonanegghunt · 30/03/2007 12:35

oh it is linked
it is a problem all the parents i know have
one dad on being asked what I should buy his dd"anything except another soft toy"
I would NEVER buy a 12 year old a teddy.

OP posts:
Dinosaur · 30/03/2007 12:36

for dd, 2shoes

nailpolish · 30/03/2007 12:37

i would never buy a 12 year old a soft toy either, be sn or nt

find that v strange

your poor dd 2shoes, there must be a million things she woudl rather have

Dinosaur · 30/03/2007 12:38

2shoes, what sort of thing would she ideally like?

CadburyCremeSquonk · 30/03/2007 12:39

Can you go on a swap board on here and try to swap all the teddies for some pencils and paper?

2shoesonanegghunt · 30/03/2007 12:48

teddies are quiet cheap arent they?
mine like them but don't get given them, i can't believecharity shops bin them???????

2shoesonanegghunt · 30/03/2007 14:08

i read it some where. think it was to do with the hassle of safety

OP posts:
MamaG · 30/03/2007 14:11

Idon't think they all bin them..I've seen them in charity shops = saw a basket full today inf act

either way, its shit for your DD 2shoes

nailpolish · 30/03/2007 14:12

i tried to take some teddies to a charity shop once and they woman there said they werent keen because some teddies cant be machine washed. Or something. Perhaps they think all children vomit on their teddies...

Dinosaur · 30/03/2007 14:12

DS2 (aged 5) adores cuddly toys.

I'm sure we could work out some sort of swap, y'know, 2shoes, if you could let me have some suggestions? I could take one of the teddies off your hands, anyway.

paulaplumpbottom · 30/03/2007 14:13

thats sad

2shoesonanegghunt · 30/03/2007 14:15

teddies can be machine washed. I know i have done it. although red ted won't last another one.well he is 15. but april just sparkles after bing in the machine.
