To be really disappointed with amazon

Quite frankly I have found their responce unhelpful and borderline racist.

I actually have never in the years and years had a problem with amazon, and the one time I did I am just so annoyed in the way it was handled.

So I ordered a bulk order yesterday, on my prime account, all orders from amazon logistics, and available for prime delivery.

Part of the order was due today, part was due tomorrow.

Got an email at 5pm saying the first part was delivered to my safe place. Came home not delivered.

Called customer service spoke to a very friendly guy, but in a clearly an overseas contact centre, I would at a guess say India. His English was very broken but he tried his best. (Despite the call being slightly infuriating having to repeated my self multiple times, because of his English skills)

Basically he told me to ignore the email I got today and most likely the logistics centre have bundled all my orders and will deliver tomorrow. Offered to call me back tomorrow to check if all items have been delivered. I declined, as the thought of spending another 30 minutes on the phone tomorrow night, repeating my self over and over again, if I don't need to, just fills me with dread.

Any how I then got a very prompt email from Tom, confirming what we have just spoken about.

I am sorry amazon, but I don't believe I have spoken to Tom at all today, why fuckin change the agents name?

A friend of mine had this happen, she got an email from Dave...

Secondly, why say you are delivering something on a set day, send an email to confirm you have done so, when you clearly have no intention of delivering..

anyone else had this problem? And am I being really unreasonable to think that it's really offensive to change overseas employees names to something more "western"?

It's been going on for years. I once reported a lost M&S store card, back in the days when you could only use them in M&S, and the agent's European name was Adolf. Is it so different from Chinese people having a Western name as well as their Chinese name?

sonjadog · 16/08/2017 21:19

It´s very common for people to take on western sounding names when they start learning English. I guess it is considered easier to pronounce or remember. Yes, it would be better if the anglophone world made more of an effort to learn foreign names, but that´s the way it is. Most people I´ve met have really liked to be called their English name.

outputgap · 16/08/2017 21:20

Just had a series of emails with Amazon customer services and everyone was called Indian names (except Duncan who eventually rang me from Dublin and was Scottish).

Slimthistime · 16/08/2017 21:21

I wish I had an English name. I wouldn't assume Amazon have changed it or obliged him to do so, many people will give their child an English name as well as their main name.

notevernotnevernotnohow · 16/08/2017 21:28

The people in the call centres choose an "English" name because its easier for them, as well as you.
Many of us do the same even on this side of the world. We can't be arsed to spell our names out a hundred times a day to people who won't understand it anyway, how would you get on on a call tomorrow saying you'd spoken to Pilavullakandi Thekkaparambil Usha yesterday, for example?

GetOutOfMYGarden · 16/08/2017 21:46

People do it anyway in Indian call centres. The abuse they get on the phones feels a lot less personal when the uppity bastard is calling 'Barry' a cunt.

Catanddogmake6 · 16/08/2017 21:55

On the delivery front - yes have been having problems with Amazon next day delivery. It's only when Amazon logistics are involved - it may be the same depot (begins with W). One time it was something really important and despite many calls and chats - in which they all agreed it was really important they did nothing to resolve the issue and get the items to me on time. Even when I offered to drive over and pick them up. I ended up putting a written complaint but have had no response. They have also got a lot stingier in handing out a free month of Prime when you complain.

I have used amazon since dd was a baby so nearly 14 years. I had literally never had a problem with them until about 9-12 months ago. They were my go to for just about everything I bought I'd look there first. Have used Amazon prime for a couple of years.
Now I rarely buy anything from Amazon, so many things advertised as Prime that when you try to buy them it is one obscure colour or size that is available on prime all the rest will take weeks to arrive, I have had more parcels cancelled by Amazon or not arrived than actually have turned up or the wrong item. These are all fulfilled or sold by Amazon items, marketplace sellers everything has turned up ok.
I have all but given up on Amazon and have cancelled my prime membership. It would have to be an absolute bargain or I needed it and couldn't get it somewhere else before I will order off of Amazon again.
Their customer service is useless so I just don't even give them my money anymore.

Winebomb · 16/08/2017 22:40

Re the changing the names, is it really necessary to say you spoke to"Tom" when clearly you didn't.

It's very disingenuous and to me not the best customer journey. How many pretend toms are there in the amazon call centre...

And very presumptuous that we (westerners) need to see a western name to be satisfied our customer service needs have been received..

First time I noticed this was getting broadband recently. YANBU. But after some explanations above I see more why they do it.

notevernotnevernotnohow · 16/08/2017 22:44

To be honest, its a bit racist of you to call their preference for a convenient western name disingenuous and presumptuous. It's not all about you, you know.

Winebomb · 16/08/2017 22:50

I very much doubt it's the choice if the agent to be called a different name to what they are born with.

Email from Amazon from a few days ago. See the name. Sounds like a real name to me.

Oh really? Well I'm sure you would know. Wait, why would you know? Nope, you're just assuming.
