To Report my bitch boss (poss triggering)

I had a miscarriage at the weekend on a Sunday, only found out I was pregnant the day before. Very upset but went into work on the Monday as normal. I told my boss what had happened as I was aware my eyes are red from crying and she said "best you aren't in to take your mind off". So all ok.
Yesterday I started bleeding really heavily at work and dispite having a huge pad on it came through onto my chair. I also started having really bad cramps and did not feel well at all so I asked the assistant manager if I could go home (My main boss was not in).
I went home and led down for the rest of the day and the bleed calmed down. I went in this morning for my boss to call me in and asked why I had gone home.

When I told her she said that surely the miscarriage would have finished by yesterday and that I should have worn a thicker pad or two pads and stayed in work. She then went on to say she hoped there would not be a repeat today.

I could not say anything I was in shock and just went in the bathroom and cried my eyes out. Was found by my colleague who said my boss is a bitch (she does have form) and I should report her.
Luckily boss was at a meeting for the rest of the day so I managed to avoid her.
She does have huge form for being a cow and belittling people.

Unfortunately the buck stops with her, we have no HR, just a board of trustees who are all pretty useless and just jump to the bosses tune (they were all handpicked by her)
Nothing I can do is there?

Can you quietly and completely off the record sound out one or two of the trustees? You may find you have more allies there than you realise. Her bitchiness won't have been unnoticed. If the organisation has clients or partners you may also find some of those are put off by her. It's worth testing the water. If you find that actually they are completely cowed by her then, as difficult as it is, I would start job hunting.

If on the other hand you find out that her position isn't all that secure you could start gathering evidence and just biding your time. Even in a very small organisation without HR you should be allowed to take a grievance to the board of trustees. That may be a very bad idea but it's worth finding out a bit more. Putting up with her in the long term will be soul destroying but if you knew other people also hated her and wanted her out you might find it bearable - especially since it might mean she wouldn't stay long term.

Sounds like a charity set up with CEO and Trustees.

There is always someone higher up. Write a letter to chief trustee and copy to all of them.

If it is a charity, there is a charity commissioner that is the Next step.....

But whatever route you take, you need to look after yourself now for a little while, your emotions and hormones are all over the place poor thing. Take time out and devise a strategy.

You will get plenty of help from people who know more here.

I meant report to the board, also agree you could phone ACAS for help.

Does your company have a whistle blowing policy? I would write an email with the facts you have put here and send it to two board members copying both in.

Horrid time but honestly I would report her to the board.
