To ask which which direction am I heading...

I'm traveling from Edinburgh to Bristol - what direction am I travelling?

The second map seems to show it as due south, neither east or west.

The second map shows that a line dropped perfectly north/South from Edinburgh passes through Cardiff (a little way West of Bristol).
