Free sanitary towels

BitOfAProblem · 16/08/2017 10:35

Hi NC as its super embarrassing

But WIBU to ask, if anyone knew of any services I can get free sanitary towels? I've just came on today and I'm unemployed and technically homeless (staying with a male friend) and I have lent money off people too often to have anyone to ask lend me some money.

Honestly I wouldn't be asking if I had any options. Someone help please, the cramps are making me feel shit as it is.Sad (In Liverpool by the way)

I see the point that MN HQ is trying to make but do we seriously want to be living in a world where a kind offer like Marylou2's offer needs an MN HQ caution warning???

That's not what it's about. HQ would have posted that warning whether Marylou had offered to buy sanitary towels or not, because from time to time (and I'm not saying this is the case with the OP ) people do scam others on the internet, hoping for offers of money via inbox messages.

Waffles80 · 16/08/2017 17:17

OP - I'm in Liverpool and I can help with towels. If you aren't sorted, please feel free to PM me.

Have you had any support from The Whitechapel Centre?

deepbreath · 16/08/2017 17:18

I know OP says she has now sorted something out, but if anyone is in this situation again it might be worth asking on your local free pages on Facebook (I was also going to suggest Freecycle/Freegle, but it may take time to have your message posted and seen on there).

If anyone near me asked, I would help them. Not everyone qualifies for help from foodbanks.

MonochromeDog · 16/08/2017 17:31

OP if you're going to need more in the coming days and don't have enough, PM me. I'm in Liverpool and have a vast amount in my bathroom cupboard I always keep stocked up for me and my daughters.

BitOfAProblem · 16/08/2017 18:30

Thank you still so much everyoneFlowers

@Lolabridges I've eaten a late lunch so I should be fine.

And as for the comment by MNHQ, I understand it completely and in no way am I looking to take anything from any MNers other than advice

I'm sure I will be up on my feet again soon enough

Apart from the blood elements to deal with.....what about pain relief? Where would someone in the op's position get hold of the pain relief she needed?

I don't get why they can't be stocked in public toilets....once the novelty of them being there to steal had worn off, surely it would be as normal as toilet paper?

thegoodnameshadgone · 16/08/2017 18:39

Where are you in Liverpool lovely. Can't help you tonight but I can drop you some tomorrow if that helps? If you could pm me as I don't k ow how to pm off my phone xxx

Birdsgottafly · 16/08/2017 18:45

OP are you having your accommodation sorted out by an organisation, such as the Whitechapel Centre?

If needed in the future, any of the Salvation Army Churches give out toiletries, they are in Old Swan, Walton and Belle Vale.

There is also The Basement in Parr Street, they have washing facilities, also. As well as long term help, they can be used as a crisis point.

Birdsgottafly · 16/08/2017 18:50

""I don't get why they can't be stocked in public toilets....once the novelty of them being there to steal had worn off, surely it would be as normal as toilet paper?""

They would just be taken by people who don't really need them, tbh.

Sanitary pads? I doubt it. Unless you'd have unisex toilets, only people who need them, will need them, or are old enough to know better have access.

There might be some people who'd take more than they need out of greed, but that's the same with toilet paper - there seem to be people who steal it at public toilets. But surely that's rare.

If somebody is so desperate for £1 that they would post a thread like this, it just makes me see how desperate they must be.

1K messages per thread, even if 25% offered a £1 thats still £250 theyve walked away with Hmm

glad you got it sorted OP Im sure if you had popped into a local GP or hospital you would have been helped I hope Confused

WorraLiberty · 17/08/2017 16:27

Exactly JustAnotherPoster and the fact some people can't see that, is what keeps internet scammers thriving.

Again, not talking about the OP, just clearing up an earlier point Thanks

PersianCatLady · 17/08/2017 17:46

Whilst I see what you are saying, even if a thread fills up and has 1,000 posts, that doesn't equal anywhere near 1,000 individual posters.

Even if there were 100 individual posters, I very much doubt that 25% of them would send a £1 to a stranger, more like 10%.

Therefore 10% of 100 posters = 10.

So the OP would make £10, hardly worth the time or trouble.

MorrisZapp · 17/08/2017 17:51

Public toilets are all but gone round here. I'd be delighted for free sanitary towels to be given out but I don't think they'd last long in an unstaffed public toilet. It's hard enough keeping the toilet roll stocked.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 17/08/2017 17:55

Certainly worth the time and trouble if you know the suckers posters are going to put hand in pocket

Ok, quick question has any body recently sent any money to a poster on MN because they felt sorry for them??

BitOfAProblem · 17/08/2017 22:29

I know everyone's free to say what they want but can you stop the talk about scammers please. I never asked for money nor did I accept any offers to be bought pads. I just asked for advice. The fact I so specifically said I didn't want hand outs and the thread has turned to talking about scammers has made me feel even shittier for asking anything.

AngeloMysterioso · 17/08/2017 22:31

I've got quite a few packs going spare that I've no intention of using OP- DM me your address, I'll post them up to you x

JustAnotherPoster00 · 17/08/2017 22:32

OP I didnt mean you specifically thats why I offered the advice of trying a GP's surgery or hospital, my intention was not to make you feel worse and Im sorry if thats what Ive done, my heartfelt apologies to you Flowers
