HELP! remortgaging for IVF DEADLINE and there's a name-change problem!!!!

can't believe this.

I had to remove my middle name a few years ago for reasons that weren't my fault (can't say why, too identifying). It wasn't cos of a stalker but it was that kind of thing I suppose, not my fault. Haven't had chance to get the middle name taken off my passport etc, but payslip is just first name and surname. So does main bank account.

Bought house about 3 years ago, no problem with my middle name not being on documents. Land Registry have it registered in my first name and surname.

Remortgaging and they're asking why Land Registry don't have my middle name, this is because the remortgage application has my middle name on it, the mortgage advisor must have taken it from one of my documents.

IVF programme deadline is in a few weeks, I need the money ideally before the programme starts, what should I do??!! I don't think I know where the legal name change docs are as I've had to keep them hidden. How long does it take for Land Registry to update their records? And I guess they'd need the name change legal docs?

Not sure whether to speak to mortgage advisor I know he plays by the rules, understandably.

Stressed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get your solicitor to do a certificate of identity to confirm you are the same person as middle name/no middle name. Just think of it as if you had married and changed your surname, it really shouldn't cause this degree of confusion for your lender, they sound a bit dopey just.

If you changed your name at a solicitors they should hold a copy of the documents - any chance of getting a copy from them?

crepust · 16/08/2017 09:02

not sure I can remember the name of my solicitor and it was in a town 2 hours journey from where I am.....

If it's actually causing an issue just have the mortgage company re-issue the mortgage deed without the middle name, but a solicitors certificate will easily clear it up, don't panic. It's totally a non issue.

MyKingdomForBrie · 16/08/2017 09:24

Yeah don't change with the LR as it's not your name any more, call the mortgage broker and tell him - they just need to put your proper name on paperwork.

I recently sold DM house as her POA. Some of the documentation, land registry, deeds, etc had her middle name and others didn't. I had to sign a formal letter to the buyers solicitor confirming both names were DM.

Could you do something similar? I'm sure your solicitor will advise.

Good luck with everything Flowers

Name oddities (for want of a better word, I'm sorry) are not that uncommon. I work in customer service for a financial services company and often see death certificates that list two or three "also known as" names, or people that have some documents with first and middle names different ways around, or some where they use their middle name as their known as name so some documents are only in that name which makes it look like a different person, or who have multiple middle names and use different ones in different documents.

So I'm surprised you're getting so much trouble from it, especially as your first name surname have stayed the same.

If you can find the name change document that would be the easiest thing. I know you have to keep it hidden, but the whole point of getting the legal document is so you can produce it when required

have realised that it was ok when I bought house as was working full time, so only needed paperwork that happens to only have the first name and surname, but now i'm claiming tax credit and I had to use middle name for that as haven't had chance to drop middle name from National Insurance stuff.

have at least found the name change doc, rang solicitor and broker, both not picking up. Will email solicitor and just hope that I can fax name change doc!!!!!!!!!

thank you for your help and do please still post if you have other ideas as the show's not over til the fat lady sings!!!

It's frankly a little bit bizarre that this has caused any level of difficulty, it's also odd that since you had to drop the middle name for mysterious reasons that you haven't taken the time to make sure the middle name is scrubbed from all your documentation. Good luck with the IVF!

Brittbugs80 · 16/08/2017 18:37

Why would a middle name need to be removed so urgently but not first or last?

JessieMcJessie · 16/08/2017 19:17

Can you not pay the IVF monies by credit card for now?
