Long story I have been on the Council list (Basildon) bidding for the last 3 years to get me and my son our own place, I've now gone down as homeless and am currently in a hostel waiting for temporary acc. Once in my temp place I will continue to bid on a perm place but will be in a higher band, my fear is that I have to put 2 bids in and if there's a week where not so nice places come up ie 6th floor flat rough area, no garden arc comes up and I don't bid the Council will now put bids in for me. I know I should be grateful for any where but I still have the right to a home that I would like as I've been able to chose what I've bid on for the last 3 years so has any one been in this situation what's the chances I'll get the properties I bid on over getting one they bid on for me

toasted
Things change though. I got my pets when I owned a house. Little did I know 5 years later I'd be divorced and privately renting.
Whilst I agree it's irresponsible to get a pet in uncertain times, things can and do change beyond how you plan.

Hi I know this is an old post but I'd really like to know how you got on in the end. I'm currently bidding with basildon council and have been for nearly 4 years now. We are really overcrowded. Me my husband and 2yo nearly 3 are all in one room with a little one on the way. We are lucky enough to be able to live with my parent who says I can stay as long as but as she can imagine its tough. We cannot afford private rent as it is just not affordable. My 2 yo is on the spectrum and needs alot of care. My partner works soo hard yet private rent is still not an option just feel like we are getting no where

I think you would be better off starting a new thread for this rather than resurrecting a 3 year old zombie thread!

I was hoping it would grab the attention of the person who posted

Does it have to be Council? Theres a scheme in London where Housing offer Landlords a £1200 incentive to take people who are in temp accommodation, on the condition any housing benefit is paid straight to the Landlord, not you. I got a great place in a nice family area ( not local but wasn't fussed tbh as it's nice) .Now I'm back on my feet i aim to stay in the area long-term.

Entitled much?

You've 'gone down as homeless' which reads that you've purposely made yourself homeless to get a higher priority.

'you're entitled ' to choose where you live - then rent or buy (like the majority of people) and have your pick of properties - dives included in this option as well. You make it a home.

'I don't want to privately rent' like everyone else does? suck it up buttercup and do what is best for your child, take what you're offered, eighth floor included or stop moaning and sort yourself out with somewhere to live
