WIBU to complain about this nurse?

I should start by saying I'm not normally the complaining type. Story is quite long so here goes.

I've recently been offered a new job, one which is subject to passing a medical, vetting etc and which will involve six months away from home/family training before starting my posting. Not army. The medical exams are outsourced to an occupational health company with clinics at hospitals throughout the country; I attended mine six weeks ago.

The nurse who carried out my assessment was pretty rubbish; she seemed very unsure on which forms she needed to complete, during my hearing test she wouldn't turn the fan and radio off despite me saying I couldn't hear the beeps, then suggested I have mild hearing loss Hmm then took five unsuccessful attempts at getting blood from my arms (leaving me extremely bruised) before remembering that they aren't even required for my particular job. I planned to complain then, but told myself that everyone has off days and I was reluctant to get her into trouble I suppose.

Fast forward to last week, where I get a call from my new employer asking why I haven't been for my medical yet. I explained that I had, but they've yet to get the report back. This delay means I've already missed the next training intake. I contacted the clinic; today I got a call from the same nurse saying that she'd accidentally deleted all of my data on the day but hadn't got round to calling me!! The clinic is a good hours drive from my home and current place of work, and I'd already used annual leave for the first appointment! WIBU to now put in a complaint? The woman seems completely incompetent, and I'm now just really annoyed about the whole thing!

So much bollocks posted on this thread. Some people have zero legal knowledge but will insist on posting any way Hmm

Definitely complain op. Complain to the company as they should compensate your out of pocket expenses at it's their error (but of course they may try to wriggle out of this). Also speak to the HR department recruiting you because they will have paid a lot for the service as pp said and you don't want to look unreliable before you've even started.

Complain away, YANBU! I'm appalled about the unsaved data, she's now delayed you starting. As for the hearing test, she sounds bonkers.

Deux · 16/08/2017 10:17

Also, I think it would be perfectly reasonable for you to request a different nurse to run the repeated tests as your experience has dented your faith in the provider.

Farfromtheusual · 16/08/2017 10:23

Complain to the police?? Seriously?? Sorry but that is the most ridiculous thing to suggest 😂😂😂

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 16/08/2017 10:34

Quite FarFromtheusual. Totally ridiculous. As is complaining to her professional body and saying things like lost data is unlawful under the DPA Hmm

Sounds like the nurse had a shit day at best for which there could be mitigating circumstances (family member seriously ill/underlying medical condition etc etc) and is incompetent at worse. All of which her employer should be dealing with and managing once they are aware of the op's complaint.

I think you should complain, and request that the new appointment be with someone else.

She may have been having a terrible day but there's a threshold for minor cock ups and she's quite a way across it. But grumpy and distracted, late to submit paperwork, that kind of thing, annoying but acceptable. Unnecessary blood tests and total failure to submit report, unacceptable.

HopefullyAnonymous · 16/08/2017 11:09

Grumpy and distracted I can cope with, but honestly I could have given it a better go myself! With the many blood tests, she kept forgetting to tighten the strap, at one point leaned across me to reach something which meant she pushed right down on the needle which was in my arm. Painful, blood was dripping my arm but not a drop ended up in the little bottles! She was sort of the nursing equivalent of Basil Fawlty, it would almost have been comical.

The worst medical experiences I've ever had have been due to these bizarre occupational health consultations. Once I was called into a room and there was someone else in there with another nurse having a consultation exactly the same as me! What happened to confidentiality!!???

YANBU

Was she actually a nurse?

Or have the OH company fast tracked some kind of technician/auxiliary through 2 weeks of training so they can save money.

I'm wondering!!!
