For neighbours dog to bark the entire time I'm sat in the garden with my kids?

OP posts:
Nomoreboomandbust · 15/08/2017 18:12

How long

OstentatiousWanking · 15/08/2017 18:13

Are the kids being noisy too?

LostInShoebiz · 15/08/2017 18:13

Are you certain your children are quiet little angels all the time they're out? Maybe you disturb as much as you are being disturbed.

Tapandgo · 15/08/2017 18:13

No more acceptable than a person shouting their head off in the garden

CremeFresh · 15/08/2017 18:15

I think a dog that barks constantly is far more irritating than the noise of kids shouting. I think it's because it's the same sound over and over again .

Letstryagainshallwe · 15/08/2017 18:15

Shouting where did I say we were shouting? Kids are playing but children playing isn't classed as a nuisance. Dogs barking is. Been barking 2-3 hours, not once has the neighbour told it to be quiet or called it in. Guessing she's gone out and left it in the garden.

Politely ask to the dog if it would be kind enough to bark more quietly.

good luck! Grin

Letstryagainshallwe · 15/08/2017 18:22

Or maybe I will just report it to the council...

I would rather hear that than the continual hammering we had from some people that live at the back of us! ( i dont know them)
it was warm , so i opened up the patio doors and it went on and on.
most weekends they are out there, building something!
Sometimes i wished i lived away from other people and houses and noise, but not to be.

MeanAger · 15/08/2017 18:25

No it isn't because a dog that is barking like that is stressed and it is really horrible for them. The owners should be working to get it used to all sorts of outside noise/children/cars/birds etc and if there is a trigger that it just can't cope with they need to bring him inside. It isn't fair to leave him out if he is getting set off all the time. I assume your children aren't deliberately teasing him.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 15/08/2017 18:27

Is that the first time? Mountain out of a molehill if so.

liverbird10 · 15/08/2017 18:30

In all seriousness, the poor thing is undoubtedly stressed and wants back in. I hope they haven't unceremoniously booted it out with no food or water.

MumsOnCrack · 15/08/2017 18:32

I'm not sure there's a lot you can do, is there? Throw it a steak?

Tapandgo · 15/08/2017 18:34

OP
Not suggesting you were shouting! Just saying a dog barking is no more acceptable than a person shouting. We should all be allowed to enjoy our gardens in peace, free from unnecessary and intrusive noise.

Neutrogena · 15/08/2017 18:36

But a dog barking is a dog speaking. You don't stop people from speaking in the garden do you?

Letstryagainshallwe · 15/08/2017 18:37

No we are not "winding it up" we are not even by that side of the fence. They are playing in their sand pit which is on the other side of the garden. No it's not the first time but I normally here in bark when I'm indoors but this is the first time in a while we have sat out in the garden in a while as we are normally out or the weathers not been great. But it's obviously much more annoying being sat out in the garden and it
Literally barking at you. Normally it's barking at cars or cats or other noises.

DearMrDilkington · 15/08/2017 18:38

Poor thing has probably been left in the garden whilst they've gone out and wants to go in the house to cool down and have a drink.

See if anyone's home, if not I'd see if there was a way to give it some water unless it has some out there with it.

He isn't commenting on the weather. He is communicating loudly and incessantly that he is stressed about the situation he is in. Annoying for anyone hearing it but actually really stressful for him.

MeanAger · 15/08/2017 19:06

If your neighbours are there, or when they get home, go round and tell them their dog is really stressed out when he is left out in the garden.

Tapandgo · 15/08/2017 19:07

A dog barking in the garden like that is totally unacceptable. They could take it indoors and let it bark at them and leave others in peace.

BertrandRussell · 15/08/2017 19:07

Don't tell me. It's all the OP's fault. Grin

Tapandgo · 15/08/2017 19:08

mean anger totally agree. No way is the noise of a barking dog the same as a talking human! (Sound like a dog in need of attention)

PollyFlint · 15/08/2017 19:12

But a dog barking is a dog speaking. You don't stop people from speaking in the garden do you?

It isn't. Dogs 'speak' primarily through body language.

A dog barking for several hours isn't 'speaking', it's under stress. And if your neighbour stood in the back garden and literally screamed at you for three hours non-stop, you would think there was something wrong.

The OP's neighbour is an absolute arsehole to leave her dog in the garden for hours on its own, because it's obviously distressed and it's creating a noise nuisance.

It is not a normal or acceptable state of affairs for a dog to bark for hours at a time. If you can't keep a dog without it being a major nuisance to other people, you aren't fit to keep a dog. If you can't meet your dog's needs (which you aren't, if it's left alone barking for hours) you aren't fit to keep a dog.

Shopkinsdoll · 15/08/2017 19:13

The sound of a barking dog all day long does my head in. The couple across the road from us, go out all day to work and leave their dogs to bark all day every day. Why have dogs if you are leaving them all day every day, getting stressed.
