To have mixed feelings about this?

About an hour ago, there was a knock at the door. I'd just got comfy in my pjs for a night watching a film with the kids so I peeped out and didn't recognise the person so (foolishly taking mumsnet wisdom at face value) I decided not to answer.
5 minutes ago there was a heavy knock and repeated ringing of the bell. Peeped out and it was the police.
Of course, I immediately started to go through the list of catastrophes but opened the door in my pjs. Cue policewoman shouting to colleague "it's ok they're in"
Turns out the first caller was a neighbour (not sure who or why they were calling) who didn't get a response and saw a bedroom window was open so called the police to say they thought I was on holiday and had left the window open!
I've not lived here long and whilst it's good to see a level of watching out for the community I'm also stunned at the nosiness and shocked the police came out so quickly.
AIBU to feel a bit put out by what was probably intended purely as a good deed?

The police came out for an open window?

Justmuddlingalong · 14/08/2017 20:57

Do you live in Midsommer?

BackforGood · 14/08/2017 20:58

Well, I'd be embarrassed that I'd wasted police time, because I didn't open the door in the first place, and grateful to have a neighbour who cared enough to do something about it if she was concerned someone might have broken into my house.

sooperdooper · 14/08/2017 20:58

Wow, must be a quiet night round your way for the police to come out so quickly for that!

MumsOnCrack · 14/08/2017 20:58

Really???!

Bumblybumbly · 14/08/2017 20:58

Maybe they heard noise in your house, thought you were on holiday so assumed it was burglars who had got in through an open window

HappyGirl86 · 14/08/2017 21:00

The police in most areas wouldn't have time to go out for an open window! That's crazy. I guess it's nice your neighbour cares but a bit extreme of them to call the police!

notevernotnevernotnohow · 14/08/2017 21:00

They called the police for an open window? And the police actually came, in less than an hour?

Really?

KurriKurri · 14/08/2017 21:00

The OP didn't waste police time - she's perfectly entitled to not answer her door if she chooses to do so.

seesensepeople · 14/08/2017 21:03

Yes really Mumsoncrack!
I'm trying to seethe caring side of this Backforgood but you vipers on mumsnet have convinced me I'm within my rights not to answer the door if I don't want to.
It is fairly quiet but surely not quiet enough for a one hour response to an open window - I'm feeling a bit shocked about it really. I don't think I wasted police time - I opened the door to the police just not to the earlier random caller - that's not an offence and neither is having your windows open.
Feel a bit creeped out really that someone phoned the police about this.

Eek. How bizarre. Your neighbour has nothing better to do? And why would he presume you're on holiday when he doesn't even know you or anything about you? Nosey fucker. It's nice to think he was just looking out for your welfare, but it's really weird.

seesensepeople · 14/08/2017 21:13

Thanks Aqua, and Kurri, that's the mixed feelings I have. I hate the idea I might be being watched - I'm on my own with two teenage girls and we've not been out this weekend, just enjoying some time at home trying to catch the meteor shower and generally relaxing. It creeps me out that someone noticed a lack of comings and goings.
