Mainly because people think either:-

a) it's really weird

b) it has to have some kind of sexual connection

Can you not just tell us what it is?

ASMR is a daft acronym describing a real sensation. It's when you find particular sounds or voices soothing, or physically pleasant to listen to. Sometimes I get shivers or slight warm tingles in my back if I listen to certain voices, especially gentle ones.

The most mainstream ASMR is probably the Shipping Forecast, generations have fallen asleep to it.
