To ask you about washing lines?

Not really an aibu sorry. But those of you that dry your washing on a line how do you cope with the spiders?! I've had two today come in. Would I get less if I dried them on an airer outside rather than the line? How do you deal with the creepy crawlies. I know I need a tumble drier

We have a rotary line that stays up all the time. It has cobwebs on but I've never had a problem with spiders on clothes. I don't particularly check for them though if I happened to see one, I'd just knock the clothes to knock it off. It's just not a problem I've encountered.

I don't have a tumble dryer and dry 80% of my washing outside year round, yes even in winter.

My spider situation is awful too! I use a standalone airer and put them outside on it. I also find it easier to get washing in if it rains then too.

We keep the washing line and pegs inside when not in use. Our garden is over hung by trees but spiders are rarely a problem, only occasionally get money spiders. Pulling up your big girl pants and using the line outside is the answer, not a tumble dryer.

This is where I tell the story of a camping trip when the older 2 DC were little: we'd just got back, DD1 (4 at the time) decided to climb into the laundry bag that the bedding was in, and shot 4ft into the air, screaming, because there was a tiny black spider in there! 😂😂😂😂😂

I know a few people have genuine phobias, but surly there are not so many people so terrified of spiders? They eat lots of flies, which can both bite and spread disease and in the uk at least, not dangerous at all.
Tumble dryers are expensive to run and gobble electricity. Clothes that are line dried smell so much nicer.

Incidentally, wasps get a lot of bad press, but in the early part of the year are beneficial for gardens as they eat and feed their young on millions of aphids and the like. It is only after the queen wasp stops laying eggs that the workers become a pest themselves.

It's not that I don't like spiders as much as it's fucking irritating walking into webs several times a day.

I have never had a problem with spiders on my washing. I hang everything outside unless it is pissing down with rain. Clothes smell so much better when they are dried outside. I don't have a tumble dryer, but do have a heated airer for when it is really vile like yesterday. I never leave my clothes out overnight, but that isn't because they get darked on. It is because in Scotland, the air gets damp as evening falls. Tumble dryers kill your clothes - and are hideously expensive to run! Hang stuff out and get over the spiders!
