Following.... I'm stuck looking at nmw jobs that don't pay the childcare and id like a more professional one but feel stuck.

SomedayMyPrinceWillCome · 13/08/2017 07:18

Senior sister in A&E in a city centre hospital

FineAsWeAre · 13/08/2017 07:18

I'm an early years practitioner. The setting I work at is in a very deprived area and many of the children attending are from vulnerable families with issues like substance misuse, domestic violence, neglect, poverty. Many of the children have delayed development and/or challenging behaviour. It's not an easy job and it's poorly paid but I love it.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 13/08/2017 07:18

I'm a charity shop manager, on a hiatus to bring up my children (2.5y and 10w). I'm looking forward to going back one day.

WashingMatilda · 13/08/2017 07:25

waves back at Nancy with cheeky headlight flash for good measure Smile

CKbluebell I love it! I was an actress for 10 years before joining so it was a bit of a shock, but it's really worhwhile even though incredibly incredibly tough at times. Morale is at an all time low and people seem to hate us more than ever (I was assaulted 4 times in the last 6 months, once where he spat in my face and another where he fractured my middle finger)
But all in all its brilliant and I love my job.
Is there a Special Constabulary in your local force? They have the exact same powers as a regular officer (arrest etc) but are volunteers. It's how I knew it was for me and is a good way to try before you buy.

Might be something to think about if you're able to take it up?

Ceto · 13/08/2017 07:31

OP, is it the position that you want to know what ex teachers tend to do, as opposed to all the different jobs other MNers do? How about things like private tuition, educational psychology, specialist SEN work, nursery work etc?

Highpeak · 13/08/2017 07:33

I'm an R&D scientist for a small biotechnology company. I do enjoy it but the hours can be long when doing experiments. Currently on mat leave and starting to wonder if it's what I want to do in the future.

TheBruteSquad · 13/08/2017 07:34

I work in Probation. I'm not an ex-teacher but a fair few Probation Officer colleagues are.

@Brute, I've just applied to work in probation. How flexible would you say the role is?

TitsalinaBumSquash · 13/08/2017 07:53

I'm a home carer for the elderly, I clean, cook, support, drive, care, etc etc etc. I love it.

MollyHopps · 13/08/2017 08:11

I am currently a Bereavement Advisor, but looking in to Paramedicine next year if my current career plan doesn't work out over this year.

FuckyDuck · 13/08/2017 08:32

I'm self employed after starting my own business on Mat leave. Debating taking the leap and handing on my notice to 'old job' which was as a mortgage adviser for a high street bank

JaceLancs · 13/08/2017 08:41

I manage a small charity too
Hello kitty!

Interpreter, chomping at the bit to get out.

Bubblysqueak · 13/08/2017 09:07

Sendco at a nursery.

OSETmum · 13/08/2017 09:18

Teaching Assistant. All the nice bits, non of the after school/ weekend planning and marking etc. Obviously the pay is terrible but, while I have a young ds, the hours and holidays are perfect for me.

JammyGem · 13/08/2017 09:20

I work in Travel. Not the glamourous part mind, I'm in the office!

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 13/08/2017 09:24

I'm a caseworker for an MP. I deal with blocked drains, neighbour problems, homelessness, benefit problems, people in prison abroad, everything you can imagine

Coldilox · 13/08/2017 09:26

Police officer. Love my job but hate what is happening to it.

khaleesi71 · 13/08/2017 09:32

Operations director for a medical school. Crazy hours but great job!

NoCryingInEngineering · 13/08/2017 09:45

I'm an engineer, but mostly a project manager these days. I run technical development projects, trying to find smarter and more efficient ways to run key equipment and processes and break things less often

birdling · 13/08/2017 09:47

I run community choirs and teach harmony singing to beginners. I also do a bit of supply teaching to supplement this.

ememem84 · 13/08/2017 09:53
