AIBU to think this magazine cover is a bit too grown-up for a little girl?

I imagine I will get a mix of responses, but it might be an interesting thread.

Saw this magazine (first picture) when I was in the supermarket today and did a double-take, as I initially thought the model was a grown woman. The posing and styling seems very mature, she is wearing lipstick and has a "model" expression. Something about it didn't sit well with me.

Also, found the second pic on Google and the girl isn't even wearing trousers?

Expect I will get a lot of "YABU, it's a child, you're sick in the head" but it just seems too grown-up to me.

They're wearing smocks Confused

Sisinisawa · 12/08/2017 21:32

How's the market research going then OP?

Dozyoldtwonk · 12/08/2017 21:42

I read this magazine in a local soft play - they're obviously subscribed to it and put it out to read. It's ok, but too high end for me in terms of the fashion pages and endless articles on private schooling, tutors & behavior classes and so on yes, really I do like the travel stuff and some of the start up articles/interviews though. You can buy this in Waitrose for £4.95 Confused I don't think I'd ever spend that much on a magazine!

I think the covers are fine though; I guess they just appeal to the target market in terms of the fashion and styling. Having said that I certainly wouldn't dress my DD like that, but like a precious poster has said, they are models selling a product.

Those mags look extremely dull! I don't see too much of an issue there though, their magazine has to stand out and it clearly got you to notice it.

eyebrowsonfleek · 13/08/2017 19:08

They look very wanky magazines.

Forget frills- fashion is for twins and tomboys WTF does that mean?

I think that the one on the left is a child modelling for adults. If it's a UK based magazine then it's strange that she's not in a more typically school uniform outfit and the glasses look more fashion accessory than life necessity. I wonder if she was instructed to look serious- unfortunately she looks bored. There's lots of decent school uniform posters up at the moment. They all give a sense of energy rather than boredom.

VestalVirgin · 13/08/2017 19:21

Picture on the left looks weird because of the posing, I think. Looks very artificial.

Picture on the right has children who look natural in their facial expressions, but have make-up on and aren't properly dressed. (What is that even supposed to be?)

All very weird. Not appealing at all.

Alpacaandgo · 13/08/2017 20:01

I know what you mean. It doesn't sit right with me either.

RiverTam · 13/08/2017 20:04

I really don't like the little girl kneeling on the bed in her baby doll style dress. That is a very adult come hither pose to me.

Beadieeye · 14/08/2017 00:58

They just look like normal children to me. I don't see anything controversial.

Notknownatthisaddress · 14/08/2017 01:26

The covers look fine. And none of the girls look anything like 'grown women.' Confused

kali110 · 14/08/2017 06:20

The pink one looks fine to me, little girl ( yes wearing makeup) but still looks like a little girl not an adult.
The other cover, the clothes and the posing just doesn't seem right.

KathyBeale · 14/08/2017 07:32

I don't like the cover with the two girls, and as a mag journalist myself I am completely fascinated by that frills coverline. We always call lines like that 'a bit fridge-magnet' because it's as though you've thrown words together to catch people's eyes and they don't actually make any sense!

MargaretTwatyer · 14/08/2017 07:39

I think it's fine. I also think it's incredibly good publicity for the magazine that this has been posted here....(whistles). Don't work in publishing by any chance OP?
