Popping in for a coffee!

Is it just me? I was just locking up last night to go to bed when there was a knock on my door, it was a woman I know from school, she said she was just going home from a night out saw my lights still on and thought that she would pop in for a coffee! She stayed til nearly one so I have had a stinking headache all day and in shitty mood. God I'm such a doormat I shouldn't have answered the door.

Ugh, I hate people that 'pop in' unannounced. I know I sound like a stick in the mud but I think it's just obnoxious. YANBU.

StealthPolarBear · 11/08/2017 19:45

What time did she get there?? Was she drunk?

frieda909 · 11/08/2017 19:45

Wtf? What time did she show up? Was she pissed?

frieda909 · 11/08/2017 19:46

Haha jinx!

Questioningeverything · 11/08/2017 19:47

I'd have said sorry, I'm off to bed! Shut the door... why'd you let her in???

BackforGood · 11/08/2017 19:49

I love people popping in in the day but I would not have let her in if I were about to go up to bed. How bizarre.

CorbynsBumFlannel · 11/08/2017 19:49

How weird! I'm not a fan of people who pop in at any time but that takes the piss. Why didn't you say you were on your way to bed so will have to do it another time?

I'm with Question I'd either have said "I'm sorry, I'm just off to bed" or I'd have let her in for 30 minutes and then said "It's been lovely to see you but I must be off to bed, let me get your coat"

But you're right, she was rude.

vikingprincess81 · 11/08/2017 19:53

'Oh how lovely, but I'm just off to bed, maybe another time' and close door quietly but firmly. Grin for the next time she comes round!
Yes she was being very rude, don't let her in again at that time if it's going to impact your next day. Flowers

demirose87 · 11/08/2017 20:14

A bit selfish on her part. And also weird that she would turn up at that time. I had a mate turn up at half 11 one night asking for a shower cos she had no hot water. I said yes even though I was actually in bed, but I wish I had the balls to say no cos she doesn't know when to leave and talks really loud and woke my kids up.

PollyFlint · 11/08/2017 20:25

I'm not really into unannounced 'popping in' at the best of times, but 'popping in for a coffee' at night without being invited and staying until 1am is properly weird. Especially midweek.

Have to echo what others have said: was she drunk?

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 11/08/2017 20:26

Popping in is a strictly daytime activity.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 11/08/2017 20:27

How odd! Then you let her in, even dafter!Grin

sororitynoise · 11/08/2017 20:28

Can't complain if you let her in and entertained her until 1 am. Say no.

Crunchymum · 11/08/2017 20:31

Jeez, why did you let her in?

I understand in some situations saying no isn't always that easy, but if you can't say "not now it's my bedtime" to some random then you have serious issues with assertiveness.

ladybird69 · 11/08/2017 22:30

It was just gone ten! I was in kitchen making my bed time drink my doors aren't locked so she saw me,waltzed in and invited herself for a coffee. I am stupidly soft but sat yawning and she talked at me for approx 2 1\2 hours. I am going to start to keep the doors locked I just hate confrontation. Don't even know why she felt the need to pop in.

Willow2017 · 11/08/2017 23:26

Dear God why didn't you say something? Someone you hardly know walks into your house and stays for hours and you sit there till they decide to leave? 1am!!!

Next time say sorry just off to bed and show them out. God I thought I was bad at confrontation.😀

ladybird69 · 12/08/2017 03:43

I know I'm a right mug I wouldn't have minded if she was in trouble or needed advice but she just carried on gossiping and giggling about other mums. I'm so not into that so why the hell did she think that I was! I am really a door mat need to get a back bone.

araiwa · 12/08/2017 03:47

How was she supposed to know you wanted to go to bed if you didnt tell her? Confused

nameusername · 12/08/2017 03:55

It's a good thing she's not a Vampire!

SabineUndine · 12/08/2017 04:02

Goodness 10pm and you don't have your doors locked? Where on earth do you live?

ChasedByBees · 12/08/2017 05:05

If she was a vampire she would have needed to be invited in... Wink

This is a bit crazy OP, you could have easily said you were making your bedtime drink and needed to sleep.

user1497557435 · 12/08/2017 05:15

That's weird.
