To be so bad with money?

I've alwaya been shocking. I never had pocket money so I never learned to manage it. I also have tastes for 'nice' stuff, shampoo and makeup, and so on.

So I am trying to save which is so hard as I don't have a lot. Saved £450 so far. Rubbish I know.

Any tips?

The money is instant it is just small. Say 2-20 on average.

I made about 2k a couple of years ago. Though the offers are few and far between now.

It is not gambling for anyone that understands Maths. Though technically yes you are betting. The only downside is the money you have to have in the exchange for lays.

Imho I don't think it is as worth it as it used to be. Lack of offers , gubbing and all.

Matched betting is not gambling - and I agree it is a good source of extra money

Working in cash as recommended on here is a great way to manage a budget. I used to literally have envelopes in my drawer labelled 'fuel', 'shopping', 'week 1 spending'

I could then shuffle money around if needed but only ever the drawer money and not my account.

That said, sometimes people still prefer to use a card. I currently fall into that category though I need to sort myself out again properly as I've slipped and am becoming spend again.

So...my tips for using a card still would be:

  • either make sure all direct debits leave your account within a day or two of you being paid (including an allocated amount to savings) then what's left is yours
  • or open a basic current account with no overdraft and have a set amount transferred to there on the day you're paid and that's your spending money. Leave the debit card to your main account in a drawer at home or frozen in a block of ice in freezer.

Have your savings in an account with a different bank and make it branch access inky so you have to physically go there to withdraw (this is great for making you think it through before withdrawing). For maximum discouragement pick a management through branch only savings account with a bank where the nearest branch is a town or two away from you. That way you can pay in online but would have to travel a bit to get there to withdraw
