My toddler 22 months is a bit obsessed with the colour red and wanted boys trainers- the girl's range only had light pink and mint. AIBU in thinking that at such a young age there is no difference and they are easily unisex? The shop assistant was quite adament that i buy her girl's shoes.

just buy shoes that fit.
shoes are just shoes.
colour doesn't matter

The shop assistant is an idiot. Shoes are shoes. Get her some lovely red ones!

ambereeree · 11/08/2017 12:06

Thanks i bought them and she loves them. I was just worried maybe boys feet are wider.

They do most children's shoes in narrow fittings too.

I'd have taken my business elsewhere to be honest. Hate that kind of crap. A 22 month old doesn't have a concept of different colours for the sexes ffs!

dollydaydream114 · 11/08/2017 12:33

The assistant is talking drivel. And there's no difference in width for kids' feet. Just get your kids the ones they like and that you think are right for them.

InDubiousBattle · 11/08/2017 12:36

Half of the shoes my dd has had have been from the boys section. It was the only way to avoid the pink/glitter explosion that was the girls section in Clarks.

I hate gender stereotyping with a passion. There is no such thing as a girls colour or a boys colour. Buy the shoes that fit the best, and that she likes. The shop assistant is an idiot.

AuditAngel · 12/08/2017 00:19

They use the same measuring guide for boys feet and girls feet so the width fittings must be the same. Having both a boy and two girls I would say trainers are fairly unisex, girls shoes tend to be more shaped around the toes.

AGrinWithoutACat · 12/08/2017 06:31

DD(2.5) tends to have 'boys' shoes as they tend to a more robust construction - that's the only difference I have found

On the width side of it DD(12) and DS(11) for some reason have always measured the same shoe size - my problem was finding the widest fittings for DD and then something that would stay on my very narrow footed DS
