to think the BBC are scraping the bottom of the barrel?

I am a massive BBC fan. I think a lot of what they do is excellent and don't like the fact it appears to be trendy to slag them off.

But. Len Goodman's Partners in Rhyme? REALLY??? Who on earth thought this was a good idea? It's being trailed very heavily on BBC One and every time I see it I die a little bit inside.

Looks dreadful. I thought it was going to be a wednesday afternoon thing, but its going to be on Saturday evening?

PinkSquash · 10/08/2017 13:07

It can't be any worse than Count Arthur Strong, can it?

PoppyPopcorn · 10/08/2017 13:25

Saturday evening? I assumed it would be a 3pm thing on a weekday too. BBC do get it dreadfully wrong in that slot too, if Dr Who or Strictly isn't on they put on the biggest load of nonsense.

Remember that thing with Zoe Ball which was a rip off of Ninja Warrior?

I think Channel 4 has scraped the bottle of the barrel these days, especially when I saw the title of Noel Edmonds which is called "Cheap! Cheap! Cheap!" (So cheap they named it thrice). On another note, who on earth thought giving Noel Edmonds a new show of his own when his behaviour is becoming increasingly erratic and his attitude towards cancer sufferers is appalling.

I totally agree and I bloody hate it when the name of a tv programmes contains a "celeb's" name AND especially when the "celeb" welcomes you to the show and says the name of the bloody show thus saying their own bloody name!! Can you tell it annoys me a bit? I will shut up now....

ShatnersWig · 10/08/2017 14:22

Pink You'd be surprised how popular Count Arthur Strong is. Twitter was pretty active yesterday with people complaining and tweeting the BBC for cancelling it. I get that he's Marmite, but his radio show has won loads of awards and he sells out big theatres up and down the country.

Heratnumber7 · 10/08/2017 14:25

Pink Arthur Strong was hilarious on R4, but like other radio programmes, it hasn't translated well onto the TV.

ShatnersWig · 10/08/2017 14:28

Hera I agree. I nearly crashed my car once listening to the radio show through laughing (where the Count is not quite so pleasant or reasonable all the time) and his live shows have me in tears. The supporting cast of characters on the radio show are funnier than the ones on the TV show. There have been occasional brilliantly surreal moments in the TV show but as a whole, I agree, the TV show is by far the weakest of his incarnations, sadly.

noeffingidea · 10/08/2017 15:19

The BBC hit the bottom of the barrel when they pushed Jimmy Savile as a mainstream celebrity.
After that anything is possible really. Just avoid, OP.

Whitecurrants · 10/08/2017 15:21

Sounds awful. Mind you, most Saturday evening TV isn’t exactly quality

Laiste · 10/08/2017 15:26

I know it's a bit off topic, but whatever happened about revealing the salaries of the top paid BBC celebs?

I saw recently they had admitted to a massive difference between how many male and females were on the top list (many more males obvs) - were they ever asked to publish who gets what in the end?

BoneyBackJefferson · 10/08/2017 15:58

Laiste

they put a list out, it was in the papers.

The problem most (sensible) people had with it was that the bbc has never publicised what the people did for the salaries.

FelixtheMouse · 10/08/2017 16:04

Saturday night TV is a plot by the brewers to make you go to the pub.

BabychamSocialist · 10/08/2017 16:16

It's created by the lovely radio DJ Matt Edmondson and based on his (brilliant) game Obama Llama, I believe. It does look like cheesetastic fluff though. Still, there's a place for fluff - look at Blankety Blank!

ppeatfruit · 10/08/2017 16:28

Exactly Babycham It's meant to be a 'family' show, a bit of fun not to be taken seriously, (I heard Len interviewed about it). I'll watch if I'm in, it sounds interesting .

peachgreen · 10/08/2017 17:00

Ant & Dec have already done it best...

BabychamSocialist · 10/08/2017 17:08

@PeachGreen

Nothing is funnier than Wonky Donkey! Such memories of being a student teacher and watching it! "IT'S GOT TO RHYME!" Grin

DioneTheDiabolist · 10/08/2017 17:14

Saturday evening?Shock I thought this was going to be a weekday filler while Doctors is off the air.
