My husband and I have a double barreled surname, as does my eldest.

If we were to have another son I love the name Thomas, shortened to Tommy.

The only issue is that his dad's surname is a fruit and very similar sounding.

Could I get away with the name in theory Thomas 'Tommy' Evans-Berry (Not our surnames but similar).

Or am I asking for him to be made fun of?

I never get this kind of thing. Who addresses people by using their first and last name? None of his his friends will see him in the street and shout hi Thomas cherry! It would be hi tom/tommy/Thomas. Also if his name will be Thomas his teachers will call him Thomas.

Personally I don't see the problem. There are far worse names! And I don't think it happens often that kids are picked on because of their name. There's a girl in my dds class called Flossie-wynter now that to me is a strange name!

I think any forename ending in -y with a surname ending in -y sounds a bit sing-song.

Every single time you phone someone up.
When you introduce yourself.
When someone reads out the class register.
When someone calls out your name.

Trust me, there are many many occasions where you can hear the suppressed sniggering.

Hannah kids at school are often referred to by their full names by peers..

"Oh did you hear that Laura Jones got suspended!?"

and "Did you hear about Tommy Cherry winning the award?"

It's really common.

(Not sure why I made poor Laura get suspended whilst Tommy wins an award!) Grin

Mrsovertheroad - yes I understand that I meant it wouldn't be used by peers on an everyday basis.

I wouldn't do it if I were you. My first name is London and I still get shit for it.
