Am I allowed to bring a handbag as well as carry-on suitcase?

What about a backpack?

Thank you.

Yes a freezer bag will be ok, Aldi, Ikea, ASDA whoever just make sure its 20x20 with a ziplock or press seal at the top.

You can buy 100ml bottles if you need to to fill up with liquid items, just decant and you know its correct. You can also buy many items specifically for had baggage that does not contain more than 100mls

Be careful with hand baggage size, manufactures say fits cabin baggage requirements, but who's???? There are so many

55cms height by 40cms width by 24cms depth is what Air Lingus allowance is, make sure you measure the wheels to the very top. They can take your case from you and put it in the hold if its to big.

For this reason I always have a plastic carrier in the pocket to put any valuables/medication, glasses, reading material and so on in, if for what ever reason the bag needs to go in the hold.

I travel a lot and have a routine for hand luggage!

Ginfiend · 10/08/2017 12:30

I've always used an ikea sandwich bag that's a bit more than 20x20 and no one has batted an eyelid in the last 5 years, asked me to change it or anything

OP they give out bags at Heathrow too

eurochick · 10/08/2017 12:31

You don't need to go to the check in desk if you have checked in online or on your phone and already have your boarding pass. Just follow the signs for departures and head straight to security.

At security you will need to remove outerwear, belts, laptops, tablets and liquids and put them in a tray to be scanned separately from your bags. Then you are in the departure hall. Watch the screens for your gate number. Once that is displayed, head to the gate to board.

Hoppinggreen · 10/08/2017 13:55

Sorry, if you have checked in online and have only hand luggage then no you don't, you can head straight for security
We always have at least one hood bag as well as hand luggage, partly to avoid DD's make up angst

ClemHFandango · 10/08/2017 15:02

Just to say they give you the wee plastic bags for your liquids. You don't have to bring your own.

coconutwater1 · 10/08/2017 15:26

''Just to say they give you the wee plastic bags for your liquids. You don't have to bring your own.'

So you just hold up the already long security 'q' with people tutting and sighing as if to say 'why did they not put them in a bag, whilst you pick all your 100ml bottles out of your bag, all for the sake of a freezer bag....and a unhappy member of staff in front of you... ok...

East Midlands and Birmingham have the bags before you go through Security so there is no holding up of people!

Brittbugs80 · 10/08/2017 15:33

That's before you even get to Security. On their own wee stand by the coffee shops and toilets, miles away from the tutters and unhappy staff.

Hiphopopotamus · 10/08/2017 15:38

No one brings their own plastic bag Confused

They have stands with loads of bags just before security where you can sort your stuff out

Roussette · 10/08/2017 15:56

I bring my own plastic bag! But now they are free at most airports, I take a few with me for forthcoming flights and use those

coconutwater1 · 10/08/2017 15:57

So do many other airports, but just why not be organised and save yourself the bother for the sake of a cheap as chips plastic bag, that once used to be charged £1 for the pleasure at airports....maybe one-day they will bring the charge back, who knows. I really cannot see the point in waiting to get to the airport to sort your 'stuff' out.

But then again Im in too many airports to not be organised.

Really the OP can make their minds up

IdoHaveAName · 10/08/2017 18:19

Thank you all. I think I will sort my stuff out so that I'm not rooting through various ends of case to find bottles.
Thank you all. Eurochick. Your post is really helpful. Easy when you know how eh?

Thanks again everyone. Hopefully I won't end up holding anyone up next week.

Final question (I think!). Is it ok to bring my own laptop plus an unopened ipad? I only ask because Royal Mail destroyed my phone I posted 3 weeks ago as it had a battery...?

These questions are so specific to not only the airline. But wometimes even what ticket you have with the airline. You really need to read the guidlines for the airline you are using
