Casual daytime tv swearing

Questioningeverything · 09/08/2017 20:35

Right, before anyone says it, guilty! My daytime tv is shocking, I series link stuff to watch when the kids are sleeping. If you looked right now you'd see Judge Rinder, the real housewives, dinner date... to name a few. those are the least embarrassing

My Aibu though is based on the swearing I've noticed particularly on the real housewives. 'She's such an arse!' Being an example. It's shown at 5pm- has the watershed relaxed?? Growing up, any swearing was on after 9! I feel like my Nanna getting all shocked hearing it.
I kind of liked the old way of doing it. I swear like a sailor sometimes, so it's not that. I don't know, aibu??

Arse isn't swearing is it?

TheNaze73 · 09/08/2017 20:43

Arse isn't swearing is it????

As long as they're not calling each other cunts & telling people to Fuck off, on The Real Housewives I'm comfortable with that

wotabastard · 09/08/2017 20:44

Arse?? Eh? Confused

chipsandpeas · 09/08/2017 20:44

i wouldnt class arse as a swear word

KentonArcher · 09/08/2017 20:46

Crikey! You think arse on telly is bad?? Try a bastard, bloody, crap or worse on Radio 4 during all hours but usually during the afternoon play. I think there is no watershed and they don't seem to care!

MarmaladeIsMyJam · 09/08/2017 20:46

Arse is not a swear word! I thought you were going to say fuck, piss, wanker etc.!

Questioningeverything · 09/08/2017 20:46

I wouldn't want my dc saying it! I think arse is a swear isn't it??
Maybe I'm a product of my upbringing. I couldn't say bloody without getting grounded for swearing...

I'd rather my kids listen to the odd arse than watch Real Housewives! Grin

Questioningeverything · 09/08/2017 20:48

I'm being an arse then! Wouldn't be the first time!

I would class arse as a mild swear word, along with crap. It isn't the sort of thing you would let your young child say.

I agree OP, although I don't watch daytime tv but I've noticed the odd word on Radio 1 in the daytime and there is just no need for it.

meatup · 09/08/2017 20:52

Bloody is a swear word, arse definitely isn't...!

NicolasFlamel · 09/08/2017 20:54

Yeah I wouldn't say it's a proper swear word but I wouldn't want my young kids saying it.
I understand feeling scandalized Grin it's like when Ron swore in Harry Potter. I clutched my pearls so hard they broke!

mctat · 09/08/2017 20:58

I feel like arse sounds much worse than bloody!

Zubba · 09/08/2017 21:00

I don't particularly see arse as a swear word but I don't want my kids to say it.
It's like the numerous 'bloody hells' in Harry Potter, I love HP with all my being but the bloody hells rankle me a little, they're kids films!!

DeannaTroika · 09/08/2017 21:05

Arse isn't swearing, but only programmes rated 15 or over are not supposed to be shown during the day.

BasketOfDeplorables · 09/08/2017 21:06

That's because it's a quaint British phrase so it's not swearing in America!
