How do you dress?
A. Appropriately for the environment. Jeans, jumper, flat shoes; you'll be getting down with the animals
B. A short dress, thin tights/bare legs, ankle boots, full make-up; you'll be looking good

Of course it's A if you are a man and B if you're a woman. AIBU to think it is not ok to have two dress codes for the same programme? Wonder if the director, commissioner, editor etc are women?

Never mind the job, you're being judged on how you look all the frigging time when you're a woman just that bit more than men. Even when the job actually is being looked at, it's a different standard for the woman.

It looked bizarre when they stood in a line at the start of the programme. Men dressed down, woman dressed up.

And they keep saying 'forever home'

Sigh.

And yes, I'm turning it off. It just came on after the news.

I noticed this when I was watching the weather forecast. Can't remember which channel it was on, but the male forecaster was in a very ordinary grey suit. The female forecaster had on a bodycon dress and looked like she was on her way for cocktails. Something ain't right!

MissionItsPossible · 09/08/2017 21:05

To be fair it can work the opposite way as well. You're a worker in an office: how do you dress?

A) Wide range of combos depending on the weather/warmth in the office; blouses, skirts, dresses, trousers, smart-casual etc etc

B) Suit and tie no matter the weather.

A = woman B = man

StillDrivingMeBonkers · 09/08/2017 21:09

Perhaps they both dress how they like to dress.

LouiseBrooks · 09/08/2017 21:10

I have no idea who she is and I didn't really notice what she was wearing other than to think the pixie boots look daft with the dress.

As for "forever home" what should they call it? "I'll keep you till you die and won't boot you out when I get bored" home? Bit of a mouthful.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 09/08/2017 21:11

Well....I'm often in the floor hugging and grappling with my dogs....in a short skirt. Can't support your outrage OP.

OuchBollocks · 09/08/2017 21:11

Countdown is wild for that. Everyone in shirts or jumpers, Rachael dressed like she's off to Sugarhut. It just looks weird.

Tazerface · 09/08/2017 21:15

Did anyone see the Aussie presenter who wore the same suit and tie combo for a year (I think) with no comments. He did it to make a point after his female co-presenter had comments directed at her.

@MissionItsPossible - let's not pretend that it's the same thing. One is dress code; one is expectation that women look good at all times.

Chickoletta · 09/08/2017 21:25

I totally agree AND she's bloody awful too. Last night she kept calling a big ugly dog the name of the woman she'd just interviewed. Oops.

Hassled · 09/08/2017 21:33

I have really noticed it with the weather presenters - BBC Carol always looks lovely, but in a way that suggests she's about to go to a garden party, or out for dinner. Tomas Schafernaker looks like he's off for an amble around the park, possibly with a pub detour.

DamnDeDoubtanceIsSpartacus · 09/08/2017 21:36

I resent the fact that most female presenters wear heels. This message sinks in and little girls absorb it. We are told that we are women and we like to wear heels but if they weren't pushed who on earth would wear shoes that cause discomfort. Female clothes are often uncomfortable and restrictive, it's a shame we see this promoted on our screens.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 09/08/2017 21:37

Steve Jones had very pricey looking (ruined) shoes on last night while Supervet had on hiking boots ! He was a bit more suitably dressed tonight .
Last night the female presenter had a gorgeous jumper and jeans on.
Think they must just choose what to wear !

KenDoddsDadsDog · 09/08/2017 21:40

Oh god Rachel on Countdown is always about an inch away from indecent exposure !

Hulder · 09/08/2017 21:43

I thought she just picked what she wanted to wear - only that could explain the weird dress/pixie boots combo.

Perhaps it was her own internalized misogyny that made her think 'I'm a telly presenter, must be made up to the max' rather than 'I shall be in a field surrounded by dogs in the rain, break out the wellies and raincoat' which would have given her more credibility. That and getting people's names right Hmm

The stupid woman irritated me by describing snakes as "slippery". They're not.
