For context I live on the road opposite the beach in a popular coastal village. I am about 80 m from the nearest house and about 50m from the beach cafe.
Terrible weather until mid afternoon so cafe shut early. Just had a knock on my door and a woman with an 10/11 yo boy asked me for my wifi password. Her son was bored, but the rest of the family wated to stay longer on the beach, so she thought he could use my wifi for his iPad. I said no and she muttered "thank you for nothing" and stomped off. Is this a thing now, letting people use your wifi!

Didn't you do this...

A lot of families, more this summer than ever, seem to congregate at this end of the beach to use the café's free wifi. Only the other day DS pointed out a family of 4 sitting on the beach all on devices. But then I am not looking out the window at the view but on mn.

What a cheeky cow! Why would you let some randoms use your own personal wifi that you pay for??

Unescorted · 08/08/2017 18:52

Pass word is Dz3r0Efzeroff

Crunchymum · 08/08/2017 18:53

I would have said "sure my password is F-U-C-K O-F-F" and slammed the door in her face.

I am actually surprised you are asking if the woman was being unreasonable? Surely you know the answer? Shock

hiphopcat · 08/08/2017 18:55

NEVER! Surely no-would would have such a cheek! Shock

ImDoingLaundry · 08/08/2017 18:57

I'm torn between Shock jaw drop at her utter cheek, and Grin at her brass neck!!
WTF, what a cheeky mare.
(Oh, and no, it's not a thing now! )

RB68 · 08/08/2017 19:05

whats the harm!! Have you seen the damage youtube can do to a limited wifi!!

GreeboIsACutePussPuss · 08/08/2017 19:11

Haha, the cheek of some people is amazing. Did she maybe not realise it was your house? like thought it was a B&B or something, which is still cheeky but not quite as weird.

Valderal · 08/08/2017 19:11

RB. No I haven't.

That's why I asked

Glumglowworm · 08/08/2017 19:13

Yanbu

What a cheeky fucker!

blankface · 08/08/2017 19:38

@Valderal if you let someone else use your wifi, YOU are responsible if they download anything illegal. YOU would be prosecuted.

That's in addition to the heavy usage if they are streaming videos etc.

Never let strangers use your wifi, it's not worth the risk to you.

Questioningeverything · 08/08/2017 20:09

Hilarious. I'd have looked blank and slammed the door in her face.

Well, that or laughed hysterically. Like nonstop laughter whilst quietly closing the door with a shake of the head.

Watching for trip advisor updates now, someone's review is going to read:

1 star.
Visited xxx beach, and the cafe was shut. That was such a shame. The weather put us off (high winds), but determined to soldier on and make the most of our visit, we went to meet the locals. Knocked on one door, nobody was home. The next one, they refused to allow us use of their facilities. Told them we were visitors to the area and they still refused to allow us to use their toilet.
In desperation, we tried a final door hoping for lovely locals. Was met with a stony reception. I only wanted their sodding wifi password so my son could game happily, wasn't asking for their firstborn. The stuck up cow wouldn't give me the password!! Who the hell does she think she is?!!
So I've come to the conclusion that this is a town of inbreds. Rude people with no decency or respect. Clearly they don't like people, so I wouldn't recommend anyone visit.

emmyrose2000 · 08/08/2017 21:43

Beachzilla! So funny.

PollyFlint · 08/08/2017 23:39

Hahahahahahahaha, this is amazing. Who the hell would a) do that and b) get stroppy when told no? What a nerve some people have.

I was at a friend's house and we were sitting in her garden when some people shouted over her fence from the field her house backs on to and said 'Open the gate will you, love? We'll have to walk the long way round to [Street name here] so we might as well cut through your place.' Which would have been OK if she had actually known them, but they were complete strangers that she'd never seen before in her life. My friend said 'Sorry, no, there's no access to [Street name] from the garden anyway, you can only reach it from the house' and they said 'Well, we'll just pop through your house and out your front door then.'

My friend said 'Er, no, you won't be doing that, sorry' and they called her a stuck-up bitch.

Biffsboys · 08/08/2017 23:42

OMG - that's the cheekiest thing I've ever heard !!!

supermoon100 · 08/08/2017 23:43

I would have said ' can you not entertain your kids without electronic gadgets '. I am amazed by how many kids are on phones and tablets in public. Sand castles on the beach and colouring in cafes

Snakeskinbritches · 08/08/2017 23:50

Yanbu. It never ceases to amaze just how cheeky some people can be. What kind of person would have the actual nerve to do this!? Hmm
