AIBU to refreeze uncooked puff pastry

Posting here as well as food for more traffic...
Yesterday, I defrosted some shop bought Puff Pastry to make some cheesy vegetable squares with. I want to freeze them so I have them ready for packed lunches. The recipe says that they should be frozen uncooked. Is it ok to refreeze pastry after defrosting ? I am getting conflicting advice from Google 🙄 Just wondered what you lot thought ☺️I'm worried about giving my DC food poisoning!

You'll get lots of people telling you how dangerous it is, but I do that all the time and have never had a problem. I refreeze meat if I change my mind about using it too.

Bloodyhellfire · 08/08/2017 12:54

Ha ha ha! That's the type of answer I was hoping for. Thank you ☺️

All depends on what vegetables you are doing with the cheese. Mushroom, spinach, beetroot or celery shouldn't be cooked and then reheated. Please don't go on someone else saying 'I've done it before and I was fine' it's the same as any of those arguments, really was luck doesn't make it a good idea specially if you are defrosting these for children to eat.

Why shouldn't mushrooms, spinach or celery be cooked then reheated? I use those in loads of recipes I bulk cook for the freezer Confused

AnxiousRenovator · 08/08/2017 14:18

Yes curious about the mushrooms, celery and spinich. The first two being staples in all my soups, casseroles, minces etc which are always reheated the next day for lunches or frozen in batches...

We must have stomachs of steel.

You learn something new everyday! 😊😊😊 I wish I was more knowledgeable about things like this. I'm going to end up poisoning myself one day!

And yet if you cool them down in the right way they all seem to be fine.

robinia · 08/08/2017 14:36

Potato salad anyone? Grin

Mushroom, spinach, beetroot or celery shouldn't be cooked and then reheated.

Not quite true.

You need to cool quickly and store properly.

HipsterHunter · 08/08/2017 14:40

Reheating spinach is totally fine BTW, the guidance has been updated.

brownpurse · 08/08/2017 14:46

I've been reheating mushrooms and other veg in all kinds of dishes for the last 30 years. My family has obviously had enormous luck to have survived this long. Puff pastry (and bread )are completely fine to be frozen.

brownpurse · 08/08/2017 14:46

Refrozen

HiJenny35 · 08/08/2017 14:47

I completed my update to the health hygiene certification last week and the recommendations were still the same then, they were very clear that spinach celery beetroot mushrooms potatoes and rice are a real no no for reheating. Yes if you cool as quick as possible (with in mind that you are lowering the temp of your fridge by putting warm items in) and store correctly and heat fully you lower the chance however the bacteria in things like potatoes and rice would not be totally killed by that. With myself I'd take the risk but with children/customers I wouldn't.

HiJenny35 · 08/08/2017 14:48

Brown purse Mushrooms would probably only give you a bit of an upset tummy unlikely to do that much.

LesLavandes · 08/08/2017 14:54

Potatoes!!! OMG. I'm Irish and have never thought of been poisoned by them. I cook, maybe put in fridge, heat again, freeze and cook again. Ok None of my family have got sick ever... However. I do not recommend you do as I do😂. Just go smacked

DudeHatesHisCarryOut · 08/08/2017 14:57

What about frozen oven chips? Or Bessie's roast potatoes?????

hardheadedwoman · 08/08/2017 14:59

What about frozen steak and mushroom pies that are sold? They must have cooked mushrooms in them?

BarbaraofSeville · 08/08/2017 15:05

It's not just me who has never seen any effects from routinely ignoring all these food hygiene rules.

I like the comments from the Guardian article 'This article puts me in mind of the statement " don't use knives, you may cut yourself" and 'So having been reheating left over chicken curry, rice, bombay potatoes and mushroom bhaji for the past forty five years, I now find out it's likely to make me ill? Isn't it strange that it never has?'
