To never attempt to sell anything online ever again?!

Just trying to sell a perfectly functional washer dryer. I was hoping it'd save me a trip to the tip and I might get £40 for it.

I've had someone ask me to take the listing down only to decide 3 days later they don't have the money.
I had someone coming to pick it up on Saturday, let me know late afternoon they would come on Sunday, then not turn up on Sunday! (and then ask if they could come next Saturday!) Angry
I had at least 4 people ask if they could have it cheaper than listed and could I deliver (no, the whole point was that I wouldn't have to lug it into the car)
Someone asked if they could have it for half of what I wanted, I said yes but only if it's gone today, who proceeded to have a go at me because it's unreasonable to ask for it gone today as she only drives a 5 seater.
Someone called because they were interested but insisted I guarantee it for 3 months (no, I'm not Currys).
Someone called and they were horrified that I tried to sell it but a buyer isn't able to try it out first (I explained that it is integrated and it was taken out last week and I wasn't prepared to replumb the bloody thing back in)

Meanwhile the bloody thing has been sat in my kitchen for a week!

As I being unreasonable and grabby? (It works great, it's a 2 in 1 and I advertised for £50 but will negotiate). Do people just get weird as soon as they're buying something? And, as a side note, does anyone know of any charities that will come and pick it up - id rather know someone in need has it that let it go for a tenner.

Although as I was explaining this to my friend she told me about a friend who was selling a washer, had someone come to try it out, then went to get the money out of his car but just drove away with his clean washing Shock at least I've not encountered him!

We gave our old fridge freezer and washing machine to the British Heart Foundation who came and collected them. We got an email a couple of months later thanking us for the donation and saying how much they had raised from the sale of each item. Definitely a much better way to get rid of unwanted white goods.

I have tried selling stuff on eBay or gumtree but I just got fed up with people haggling on price or simply not turning up.

I had one the other day, was giving away a baby bouncer for free. Said she would be here at 1pm, that came and went. Text her and she said she was on the way. Got to 2pm and still nothing and she stopped answering texts. 3pm came and she text and said she had stopped off at McDonald's and didn't have wifi so couldn't check her emails to find my address (odd considering all McDonald's have free wifi but whatever) so had just gone home. All afternoon I wanted in for her Angry

I hate this too. Listed a double bed & good condition mattress on freecycle & local free/swap site on Facebook. 6 people contact me.

3 want me to deliver - 1 was 30 miles away.
2 only want the frame - understand this as not sure I'd want a used mattress but only one can pick up in the next few weeks.
1 wanted the lot but never turned up when we arranged.

Frame went to a friend in the end, mattress to the dump.

White goods I'd always be a bit sceptical of buying, and would only chance it for free or very low price. But I have managed to sell some furniture recently - both big items needing a van - one through gumtree and the other on facebook. They were substantially under what I'd paid because I knew people would be put off by the hassle of needing a van to shift it.

They're not all arseholes - i sold a treadmill on eBay. Put it on for 99p and just let it run.

It sold for 99p Grin the guy that won the auction gave me £20. Bless him!

donquixotedelamancha · 08/08/2017 15:22

I'd Freegle it. Most people on Freegle are very respectful and it's fairly easy to separate the idiots by their messages.

wowfudge · 08/08/2017 15:30

So are you saying you tried to do a deal.off eBay, and more than once? If something is any good, you always get people asking for a BIN price or if you'll take X amount to sell it off eBay. I just tell them we're letting the auction run. If you are trying to sell off eBay you will get time wasters because there's nothing to stop them mucking you about.

isaulte · 08/08/2017 15:38

Local chap asked for it and then just before delivery asked me to drop by a fiver as he needed it for fuel money.

Bloody hell!!!!

I don't know where these people get their nerve from!

We wanted to give away some doors from inside the house. I had specified in the advert that it was just a cheap mdf door, but got yelled at over the phone by a man who was annoyed that it wasn't the expensive ones made by solid wood.

MessyHouse91 · 08/08/2017 16:01

@wowfudge I first tried to sell on FB, got messed about, tried to sell on eBay, got messed about again, then relisted on FB

I sold my fridge on ebay very recently - perfect working order and only a year old, collection only. I advertised it as £50 or best offer, was hoping for £40 for it. I had one woman message me: "Will you accept £15 because I have to travel 60 miles to collect it?" I didn't even bother replying.

Perhaps white goods cause more issues than other items because I've actually made over £1000 on ebay over the past couple of months selling off my clothes with no issues whatsoever. Yes, it's extremely time consuming photographing, describing, listing and posting everything but I really needed the money so in my opinion it was worth it.

monkeysee100 · 08/08/2017 17:47

@isaulte
I know! At that point I was glad to get rid of it but so cheeky!

Fruitcorner123 · 08/08/2017 23:25

I have had some bad ebay experiences recently and have definitely resolved to give more to charity. It's just not worth the hassle. I don't know who these people are because I would never behave like that as a customer.

thecatsarecrazy · 08/08/2017 23:46

I had some large offcuts of carpet left over and I heard dogs trust etc can make use of them. I put a post on f.b asking if anyone knew of any charities. I didn't post any pictures. Within minutes a woman said if no charities want it do you have any in grey 6" by 5 please. I was tempted to ask if she wanted it laying too

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 09/08/2017 01:07

We had this recently. Solid pine double bed with nearly new mattress. So many enquiries offering less, asking for just the frame and could we deliver. Funnily enough I can't fit a double bed in my car but if you want to come and get it I'm sure you'll think of something. Arranged to meet a chap who simply didn't show and never messaged again. Such a pain in the arse. Would much rather give stuff to charity. People are so bloody grabby and entitled these days.

LineysRun · 09/08/2017 01:13

You could always leave it out for the rag and bone man to collect?
Best,

Surely he's too busy making popular hit records?

We're renovating our house and have been leaving anything we can't sell or donate in the front garden and so far anything of the slightest value has gone. Most have knocked and asked and been very grateful, others have been picking stuff up and running as fast as they can with it Hmm

theoldtrout01876 · 09/08/2017 02:04

Good thing about this country is you stick it on the sidewalk outside your house and its gone in a very short space of time. you dont need those free sites or ebay. Literally whatever you want rid of just stick on sidewalk and it vanishes Grin so much easier

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 09/08/2017 20:16

Even more quickly if you put a price on it. People think they're mocking something of actual value, instead of your old tat. Grin

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 09/08/2017 20:16

sigh nicking not mocking, bloody fast autocorrect
