To think that this is ridiculous?

Friend is seven months pregnant. She has four/five tattoos; not that big, biggest is about four inches. However, she has refused any blood tests/whooping cough injection etc because she is 'afraid of needles' Hmm. AIBU to think this is selfish and ridiculous? She can get tattoos done but not have blood taken to see if there are issues or whooping cough to protect her baby because she's 'afraid of needles'Hmm

Do you really think they force vaccinations on pregnant women?

I clearly stated my point was about children and making decisions for them. Did you miss that?

"I clearly stated my point was about children and making decisions for them."

That's what parenting is about; not everyone agrees with everyone else's decisions - it doesn't mean parents should be forced to do something.

I disagree, I think anti-vaxxers should be forced to do the right thing. We don't let parents decide not to use car seats, they don't have the right. Should be the same for vaccinations, If people won't protect their children, someone else should.

I have a phobia of needles - I am rational enough to know I need to have them, but will have a panic attack beforehand and usually pass out afterwards. I also have a (small) tattoo, and that was fine - I chose to have it.

pongoismyhero · 08/08/2017 12:25

My mum point blank refused all needles during childbirth - she had four of us.

For some people the needle phobia really is so strong that it overrides other pain.

Oh dear - hours worth of tattoos - can do

Blood test to check health of herself/baby - cannot do

Perhaps she thinks only some needles are scary and not others (when done to make her body 'individual' ('rolls eyes')

Many mothers manage without pain relief in labour ( except for a whiff of gas and air). A great many of us preferred a natural third stage too, for most people there is no need for intervention in the delivery of the placenta. Midwives understand these decisions, they are perfectly rational.

I think tattoos are dreadfully common ( ducks behind sofa )

That's ok, I think you're a dreadful snob and bore Smile. Not sure what your opinions on tattoos have to do with the thread though.

I'm not at all bothered by needles or tattoo guns but YABU to think they're at all the same experience. Not at all
