Strange happenings in the street

I live on a fairly small Close with only 14 houses, so traffic is minimal. Only the residents park here and it's a very family friendly area in the Midlands.

For the past few nights around 10:30-2:00, I have been hearing cars and relatively quiet closing of doors in the street. DH and I have noticed a large white van (no windows) coming only at night, and we really though nothing of it until tonight.

At around 10:35 tonight, a car pulled up beside the van and a man got out with a flashlight on his phone. I know I sound like a busybody, but it was odd, so I watched from the window - the man walked to the van, unlocked it, sat in it with the door open for a few minutes and then got out, locked the door, went back to the car, and did the same thing with both the driver and passenger seat of the car. He did this multiple times between the car and the van, for nearly 25 minutes, then went into my neighbour's house (he is not my neighbour, though she did open her door to him without speaking). Throughout all of this, he was shining his flashligh around and looking at upper-level windows of all the houses around.

Should I be concerned about myself? Should I be concerned about my neighbour? Should I be ringing police? Or AIBU and need to go to sleep?

Very strange! I'd report but then I'm always highly suspicious of stuff like this. Especially the shining windows.

MadMags · 07/08/2017 00:00

Really weird!

PerkingFaintly · 07/08/2017 00:01

Can you get the reg numbers of the car and van? Sounds v odd behaviour, so maybe worth letting the police know. Might be something or nothing, but with reg numbers they may be able to tie it into a bigger picture.

CanadaMoose91 · 07/08/2017 00:04

I have got the reg numbers - DH wrote them down before he told me I was the nutty one. Wink

When you texted the neighbour how did you explain it? I wonder if you'll see any difference now that they know they've been seen.

LorLorr2 · 07/08/2017 00:13

Pippilottalongstocking lol!!

CanadaMoose91 · 07/08/2017 00:14

In the text I said I saw a man go in her house and asked if everything was ok. Nothing about the van or flashlights and weirdness!

They're doggers. Go to sleep.

Or: There are aliens, which are invisible to all but the Special People, hopping about in your garden. Still, nothing to see here...

rightwhine · 07/08/2017 00:44

You must stay up all night Nancy Drew. We need this mystery solving.

missmoohoo · 07/08/2017 00:51

I am going to sit quietly in the corner and wait for more details on what's happening. Grin

blahdblah · 07/08/2017 00:55

how intriguing...

LorLorr2 · 07/08/2017 01:25

Ah yeah, wise not to mention that part OP!
Is anyone else getting Secret 7 vibes from this mystery Wink

AllToadsLeadToHome · 07/08/2017 01:28

Dog thieves, alarm starts dogs barking, they know which houses the dogs are in. Come back with the van and steal the dogs.

Eragonsegg · 07/08/2017 01:30

Yes not marking place

bbpp · 07/08/2017 01:59

Maybe they're shagging and he was looking for a condom, and they were trying to be secretive but he's one of those people who always manages to make more noise and draw more attention the quieter he needs to be. And the neighbour is currently red faced and blushing she's been spotted being oh-so naughty and is scared she'll be judged by the naice homeowners on the street.

Counterpane · 07/08/2017 02:03

It sounds too Keystone Kops for a surveillance op but you never know.

Can you live stream it, OP? Grin

SerfTerf · 07/08/2017 02:04

Are you the religious police? Grin

You know the neighbours will be talking about YOU now?

timeisnotaline · 07/08/2017 02:30

I'm with serf - it all sounds sketchy but if I got a text like that I'd be 'well err'. I'd like to think I'd reply 'all good thanks, FYI there's another few on their way so we can make it a proper orgy!'

CanadaMoose91 · 07/08/2017 08:48

Crap, I fell asleep. The text makes a bit more sense because of this drip feed (sorry!): neighbour was on holiday for 3 weeks and I hadn't seen her get home. Apparently she got home yesterday.

Also, the van was gone when I woke up. Will update wirh any happenings tonight!

Sharl2017 · 07/08/2017 10:14

Cannot wait for tonight's update WineGrin

64PooLane · 07/08/2017 10:28

Ahh that does sound reasonable.

But if she just got home yesterday, and the noise has been noticeable for the past few nights, I guess that means he's been staying there in her absence? Which is fine of course. But makes it even less easy to pin down wth is happening...
