Ewww sour fizzy water

MyRedPepper · 06/08/2017 20:10

Sparkling water can't be so acid, unlike Coke and the like.
If it was that acidic, they would need to add sugar, like they do with Coke.
Fwiw (nerd alert) San Pellegrino has a ph of 5.5 (neutral is 7). That's the same than a black coffee!
Coke has a ph of 2.5 (same than lemon).

So just as much as you can worry about your teeth with Coke, I wouldn't be worried about sparkling water TBH.

BeyondThePage · 06/08/2017 20:23

San Pellegrino has a ph of 5.5 in the bottle.

The ph is 3.0 in the mouth when the carbon dioxide is converted to carbonic acid by enzymes not present in the bottle.

Due to a slight panic over enamel erosion I have now switched to Prosecco.......am I going to hell?

I love the stuff. It's not artificially carbonated, it comes out of the ground like that. Delicious.

BeyondThePage · 06/08/2017 20:27

Prosecco is fizzy too? ph 3.25

BeyondThePage · 06/08/2017 20:28

arghhh lost half my post somehow anyhow the gist = Prosecco ph 3.25-4.5 ish- acidic and bubbles...

MyRedPepper · 06/08/2017 20:35

Beyond if sparkling water gets more acidic in the mouth due to the chemical reaction, what do you think would be the ph of Coke whilst in the mouth??? Shock

MrsZombieMum · 06/08/2017 20:36

The Whole Food Shop sales it for 75p a can!!!

lionsleepstonight · 06/08/2017 20:39

Aldi do a great version of the lemon one. Even has little tin foil lids. Great with gin Grin

Lauralou69 · 06/08/2017 20:41

I'm buying some straws tomorrow!

Primadonnagirl · 06/08/2017 20:42

And some Prosecco now

leighb23 · 06/08/2017 20:45

I'm sorry. There it's started.
I buy (sit down ladies!) Sainsburys cheap sparkling water. When I say cheap, I mean 20p for 2 litres CHEAP 😊

VladmirsPoutine · 06/08/2017 20:47

My colleague drinks coffee through a straw. I'm always a bit agog about it. Obviously she can do what she likes but can any science/health types confirm whether or not the straw has any health benefit?

Lauralou69 · 06/08/2017 20:48

You......do..........WHAT?????? Blasphemy!!
