To think a bonfire everyday is a bit much

I live in a terraced house with a waist high garden wall. Last Tuesday neighbours had a bonfire at 1500 burning bits of wood, made my washing stink and the house a bit smelly. So far have had one everyday since! It looks like they are burning their old kitchen or random furniture, my partner thinks it is just because don't have a car to take it to the tip. Seems totally unreasonable to me, they did apologise to me yesterday when I rushed out to get my washing in which would be fine if it was a one off but it's clearly not. Is this normal? To me a bonfire is for a big garden in the country burning trees not a tiny terrace in the city...

Saves a trip to the tip and smells lovely!! At least they apologised!!

My ex neighbours we're constantly doing DIY and loved a bonfire, so we had bonfires easily once a week most of the time and sometimes once a day for a while too.
I think you might have to get used to it if they're doing a lot of work.

Everyday would annoy me tbh, esp if its happening at 3pm. Can you ask them to do it later in the day, to give you a chance to dry your washing, enjoy the (ha) summer?

I will summon up the courage to have a word. Seems such an anti social thing to do but I guess it would cost to get the council to collect it

Every day is too much, I've used my fire pit twice since April.

Ask them to let you know before they light their bonfire, especially if they see you have your washing out. Ultimately if it's their garden and they are allowed to use it for a bonfire, there's not much you can do. Since they don't have a car, maybe offer to take their rubbish to the tip for them?

MissBax · 06/08/2017 16:23

This may sound stupid, but isn't it illegal to burn anything other than firewood??

Bert2e · 06/08/2017 16:27

Have a word with the council - it comes under antisocial behaviour and they can visit and ask them to stop.

Are they burning trash or firewood? If they're burning anything other than firewood (or leaves, etc), there's good chance that smoke is pretty toxic. Check to see what your local laws are around that, I wouldn't want to live next to an ongoing trash fire!
