Didn't know where to post this. I've never eaten fish past it's sell by date. So not sure what to do. I tried to get an idea from the smell. But it just smells of fish. Googled it and it said not to be eaten unless frozen before hand.

"Best before" ... go for it

"Use by" .... NOPE!

It's fine. The fish doesn't know what date it is. If it looks ok and smells ok its ok.

YouRat · 06/08/2017 13:08

Oh great.it would have been such a waste. Thank you. Grin

I would as long as it doesn't smell off or feel slimey ~ although I would wash it first anyway.

Loads of these dates on food stuffs are a con anyway. I eat things days even weeks past the date depending on what it is. I admit to having a great fridge though.

I will look at slime level now. I wash fish all the time too.

If it only smells of fish it's fine. Trust your nose. As said above, the sell by date is there for the shop's convenience, use by is for food safety. I'd cook and eat that, no problem.

Depends how "fishy" it smells. Fresh fish doesn't smell fishy - it smells "of the sea"
